Hey everyone,
I’m stepping down from the Council, effective immediately.
The Council’s work so far
- An open communication thread for ongoing accountability
- Community-approved Council Charter
- Recruitment of Gino as Executive Director
- A strategy & budget published with the required two-week veto window (no veto filed)
That groundwork should have been all that was needed to fund the Executive Branch and get it started. Bear in mind that we’ve been working on these changes since October 2024.
Why I’m leaving
In recent internal chats between the Council and the DAO Committee, it became clear that the DAO Committee can still unilaterally withhold their signatures even when directed by the Council, insisting on an extra governance vote that the community never mandated.
This move overrides the will of the community that elected the Council to act on its behalf. If the DAO Committee can block Council-approved decisions, it’s clear that the Council’s role is ornamental.
I joined the Council to help push Decentraland from bureaucracy to progress; as a matter of principle, I can’t work on a body that can be blocked by a legacy bureaucracy.
Looking forward
I still believe in the vision and in the community. For the new governance stage to function, we need a straight chain of authority:
DAO → Council (delegation & veto) → Executive (delivery)
Until that chain is respected, real execution will remain on pause.
As you can see there’s no role for the DAO Committee in this new era. This is just a legacy body which drains $7,500/mo from the DAO Treasury with no real function. I hope the community agrees.
