Introduction
We finished all of In World Builder’s features about a month ago and since then we have been working on a smoother user experience, fixing any additional bugs that need to be squashed, and we have decided to add even more features that we originally promised to implement in our grant proposal. We invite everyone to join us during our upcoming Worldstorming spaces on March 1st to announce the top 3 winners for our first In World Builder competition!
Highlights
Our 3D team has completed about 97% of the 3D assets we planned for In World Builder. We are anticipating around 1,880 new 3D assets in total once all of the new 3D IWB assets are completed which will be within the next 1-2 weeks. These assets are also available on our Github to be downloaded as well for those wanting to use any of our 3D assets outside of the In World Builder! These 1,880 new 3D assets combined with Decentraland’s existing 2,500+ 3D builder assets will bring the total 3D assets to roughly 4,400 total 3D assets for creators to choose from when Building with the In World Builder.
Our coding team has been fixing bugs in addition to implementing a number of new features over the past month. We have been focusing on adding additional features that are above and beyond the original scope of our grant proposal. A snap-to grid feature has been added; optimized our Asset thumbnails; new “Tutorials” section under “Help” has been added within our UI where players can easily watch helper videos IN WORLD; a “Feedback” section under “Help” within our UI is now available, where players can submit bug reports IN WORLD; added a visible yellow hover arrows making it easier to see which objects are being edited; a huge addition was click areas and trigger areas for players to link objects with actions and triggers throughout their scene in an IFTTT functionality. Builders can set up teleports, sound effects, animations, external links, and more with these newly added trigger features.
Our marketing team hosted another Worldstorming Livestream event across twitter, youtube and twitch where we walked through and featured player builds from our very first In World Builder competition. We have also been featuring creator’s builds from our build competition in addition to short videos on how people could signup and get started within our first build competition. For the past month for our text tweets we had 36,857 impressions, 1,644 engagements, 155 retweets, 51 replies, 337 likes, and 89 URL clicks. Our twitter videos had 6,027 playback starts, 587 minutes viewed, and 1991 video views. Our Worldstorming twitter video livestream had over 197 viewers and our Worldstorming Twitter audio spaces had 41 people tune in.
Our Audio team has completed over 210 audio assets and they have been working on an additional 30 audio assets which will be added in the next 1-2 weeks.
Our User Interface and User Experience team has created over 20 tutorial videos so far that are easily viewable IN World. Our tutorial videos will also be available on Vimeo for those who may not want to view the tutorials while on the go. We have been very active working one-on-one with many builders to help ease them into using our new builder, in addition to getting player feedback on how we can improve our processes and features. We have been collecting feedback and suggestions from builders competing in our first build competition to improve our next build competition coming up in March. We also created a dedicated #inworldbuilder chat channel within Decentraland for like-minded builders to communicate while building in World. We added a new dedicated channel in the Last Slice discord for players to ask questions or provide feedback and suggestions called “in-world-builder”. We would love for the community to join our In World Builder discord channel. Here is a direct link to join our new dedicated In World Builder discord channel!
Blockers
Nft frames are not currently showing NFTs due to current DCL limitations, but In World builders can use “Images” or “3D objects” of their NFTs and then add a link to a marketplace for buyers to purchase or reference. (The current estimated fix from the Foundation is maybe 3-4 months out) As soon as NFT Frames are showing again in DCL we will make any adjustments needed to make sure they are working properly again within our In World Builder.
Next steps
Over the next month we will be continuing to add additional feature parity from the current Decentraland Builder with our recently added actions and triggers. In addition, we will be working on a first time user experience to help direct first time users to our tutorial videos through a custom In World Builder themed robot NPC in our Lobby building created by our 3D artists. The top 3 winners’ names from our first competition will be proudly displayed on trophies within our IWB lobby where players first drop into our In World Builder DCL World. We will also be hosting another build competition, encouraging players to spend time building with IN World Builder while rewarding participants with a free IWB themed wearable, in addition to some $MANA prizes for the top builders. This second build competition in March will most likely be team-based to encourage builders to create and build together collaboratively LIVE in real time. We may also be using larger scene sizes to give teams larger areas to be creative and work with collaboratively. Be on the lookout for an announcement from us for the exact dates, for our next competition which may start in mid-March! We will continue to host Worldstorming live streams in March and our next Worldstorming live stream is this Friday on March 1st. (4pm EST)
