Introduction

Hello again! We are on track and making great progress with the In World Builder. Please don’t miss out on our upcoming Spaces Series #WorldStorming starting Friday, December 1st! We will be showcasing our internal testing of the toolsets and answering any questions.

Highlights

Our MVP is here! We have been conducting internal testing on functionality, features, ui & ux. We plan to have a public version ready just after the new year.

Current toolset functionality:

  • users are assigned their own World (for free) on our world server (3,000 parcels)
  • select parcels to create a scene
  • all 2600 builder assets available
  • choose 3d assets from the catalog and place in scene
  • search catalog across name, artist, category, theme, style
  • grab objects, duplicate, edit, position, rotate, scale
  • carpenter mode (on the ground) or god mode (in the air) edit modes
  • add build permissions to other users
  • multiplayer, real time editing

All teams are firing on all cylinders, from programming to project management. On our roadmap, we had January as a month for implementing current builder assets; however, our programming team has already done this! Yay!

Our 3D team has now created 979/1800 assets, and they are ahead of schedule as well! All these assets are CC0 and can be used by anyone! They are available on our github. The 3D team is also working on the 2x2 lobby scene for the initial world experience!

Our UI/UX team continues to improve our 2D layouts, menu flows, and editing processes while our audio team has created over 50 new audio files. These will be included in the builder assets to use by anyone!

Our marketing team has been active across Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, expanding awareness and visibility to the IWB. We will be hosting a new Twitter Spaces series twice a month with our team as well as joining Testing Tuesdays and Brick by Brick sessions.

Blockers

Our original implementation of all building within the same world was going to run out of server space quickly. So, we pivoted and now provide each user with their own world tied to a DCL name. The “lobby” for this toolset will be at the name BuilderWorld.dcl.eth. Users can view a 2d menu of all the worlds with scenes in them and jump right to them. Or, you can go directly to a user world with the URL just like any other world implementation. This implementation provides greater flexibility in scene building, server storage, and scalability.

Next steps

We continue to improve the functionality of the toolset, the user interface and user experience. Our 3d team continues to create assets and include them in the toolset. We are planning to have a public MVP version in early January 2023!
