Should the following $45,000 grant in the Sponsorship category be approved?

Abstract

Death to Tennis, an independent multicultural clothing brand from New York, entered Decentraland in 2022 to foster brand growth in the Metaverse. We partnered with mofl13, a Metaverse-savvy creator since 2021, who helped build Decentraland Brasil and welcomed artists like De Leve, Bonfá, Adl, Dada Yute, Acme, and Camila Camiz.
As a self-financed collective, we focus on integrating culture, art, music, film, and fashion into the Metaverse. Seeking a Decentraland DAO grant, our aim is to onboard more artists, filmmakers, designers, and musicians, and contribute to making Death to Tennis a pioneer in the Fashion and Web3 arenas

“We are Death to Tennis - This is how we do fashion. Life is a racket - Death to Tennis, the subtle art of serving back.”
We started the brand in 2012, as a multicultural brand navigating our way through the first 7 years, wholesaling the clothing brand to Japan, Korea, England, and the US. During this time, we had the opportunity to have our clothing worn by everyone from Justin Bieber to Lewis Hamilton.
After the events of 2020, we had to refocus our brand and move away from wholesale, finding a small NYC-based retail space. Since entering the metaverse, we have developed wearables, hosted a Director film series, organized Phygital events with True band room on numerous occasions, along with Whisher vodka parties, and most recently, a 3-day Artist spotlight weekend. None of these achievements would have been possible without our partner Marcu, a Brazilian filmmaker, creator, and musician, who has dedicated countless hours to working on DCL (Decentraland), creating the first buildings of the Decentraland Brasil community. He has also worked extensively with the Tru band room, performing his music in his band The F
uk Boys. In the first year of the entertainment category for music at Cannes Lions 2019, he was nominated for his short film “112/111”.

I didn’t bother reading the rest of it. There is very little chance the community is going to support paying you guys $150 an hour so you can pocket half the budget.

voting no. This is just a grant to sponsor an event imo has very little to do with dcl. Do proceeds from the party go back to dcl?

Thank you for your quick response.
36 Phygital events over a 6 month piriod 40 hours per month work
Maybe you can help us reword this so the comunity can better understand
our proposal

All events are free with the sole purpose of onboarding people to DCL

I see. So it’s $1,667~ per person, per month x 6 months. Which makes it closer to $29/hr.

Not as egregious. It’s true.

Ive been to several NFT events. No one cares about who is throwing the party or sponsors. NFT NYC last year attendance was horrible. It has been proven time and time again these events do not onboard people. Also there is no mention of any specifics that will get people interested in DCL. Only a 2 way stream and highlighting dcl artists correct? In what way will this onboard people into DCL? Would rather see educational classes than a 2 way streamed performance or a monthly conversation.

None of our events are bassed on selling NFT;s or promoting artist that are already in the DCL.
All the artist that we will be brining and there followers will be there for the music and the culture. Onboarding will be insentavised by free gifts that our small brand will be donating.
Contextual Studies is a indepth musical program that will discuss music and culture with live guests talking about there process and showing how they work. This is and will be the teachable moments you are looking for. Across the 6 Month we will be holding 36 events that will focus on DCL and onboarding. I agree the NYC NFT events had poor turn out but the cost were hugly prohibitive and again it was about NFTS. We are trying with these events to teach people that DCL exists and that its the next socail platform. Hope this helps

Thanks for understanding we could have worded payments better. Hope if you are in NYC that you can make one of the events see what we are all about thanks again

[…] who helped build Decentraland Brasil and welcomed artists like De Leve, Bonfá, Adl, Dada Yute, Acme, and Camila Camiz.

I attended your events twice, but I want to make it clear to everybody that you didn’t help build Decentraland Brasil in any way. Please stop trying to use our name just for clout. I hope you’ll stop misinforming people about it.

@Vaporizador im MOFL13, I build the first two buildings in Decentraland Brasil, and the two are used till this day

Uhh actually our current dev had to remake both of them from scratch because of poor optimization.

Hi Vapor… We work With Marcus From Brazil he made the first 2 building for DCL Brazil that Decentraland Brazil use to this day.
We as have been work as a brand a clothing brand in DCl for the last year bringing people and artists to DCL.
My builder and partner Marcus has been in DCL for allot longer. Not sure why you would be saying this about him. Anyway thank you for your vote

Dont look like is made from scratch

I would like to clarify that the Decentraland Brasil community and its team have no knowledge or involvement in this project/proposal in question.

The Decentraland Brasil community is a social project created by the couple (Atrovenado & Atrovenada) who have invested time and money, and the project was subsidized by the founder for over a year.

"In order to support the development and growth of the platform around June 2022, I gave the opportunity to ‘mof13’ to study the Decentraland SDK system, providing a monthly salary for him to study and assist in event broadcasts.
His involvement was never voluntary or free; he was paid monthly for this relationship. It lasted only 3 months (July to September) and he was disconnected for various reasons, with a 30-day notice given for the disconnection.

As an apprentice, he was paid and mentored by other professionals, and he built 4 different builds. However, at the time of his disconnection, he only delivered 2 builds, claiming that he deleted the others.
The 2 builds he built had to be redone by crazy_laggs, as they couldn’t accommodate NFTs or machines for delivering poap due to excessive polygons and noise.

On Nov 15, 2022, he used the replica of Decentraland Brasil’s build in another project within Decentraland without authorization or prior notice to the community.

On November 30, 2022, he purchased the name of the community (Ethereum Name Service) decentralandbrasil.eth and attempted to sell us the name, acquired by him for the amount of: US$ 5.62, offering it to us for US$ 81.75.

Therefore, I reiterate and affirm that he was not part of the construction carried out by new professionals, with the results described above.

Thank you for the information. Clearly, there are communication issues here. Marcus clearly helped you in the beginning, even if you have now updated your build; that fact remains true. We did not say we built DCL Brazil; we said Marcus helped you in the beginning. The fact that you would direct all of DCL Brazil to vote NO because we mentioned this shows me a great deal. I am very disappointed in your orchestrated attempts to kill our proposal, and it’s a sad day for DCL and myself to have to react to this very childish onslaught by your team. We, as a brand, have been contributing to DCL for over a year now. This proposal was designed to help us keep moving this forward. We may have to rethink this moving forward. I wish you well in the future, friend!

Grantee in question: “We partnered with mofl13, a Metaverse-savvy creator since 2021, who helped build Decentraland Brasil”
DCL Brasil: “He didnt really help, his builds didnt work and in fact tried to extort us from money”
Grantee in question: “Why are you bullying us with your childish orchestrated attempts to kill our proposal”

Saying its a sad day for DCL after a response like this is surprising and shows complaints from the community fall on deaf ears.

As a community, you have collectively tried to kill this proposal, not on its merits, but because of your issues with Marcus, our developer. If this were truly a community, you and your team could have contacted us to discuss this, and we could have removed the offending line. However, you chose to all vote a collective “No.”
This is why it is a SAD day for DCL because your community dispite our genaroisty chose this path.

First of all Atrovenado, you pay me for a service, not for me study SDK,this is not out porpouse!

I did the verification of Decentraland Brasil without have ANY KNOWLEDGE of that, for the build that i constructed!and the SDK that i put!

This event in question, of Gambiarra DAO, i put this Near protocol DAO and have to pass you directly the money, did you remember?

I dont want to expose you how baddly and professional you are, but you know your service is a lie, and you promise so many things for me make ALL THESE BUILDINGS AND CODES in 3 months!like pay for me making the streamings and this NEVER happen!!

We know you play a unfair game ! I purchased the name of Dcentralbrasil and try to sell you this is against the law or something?

Because i dont respect any of the ANTI PROFESSINAL ways tht you work, and i dont want to expose other stuffs here, but we know is a practice of you, telling people to vote against project!like you ask me to do to

atrovenado

And first you pay for me to study SDK and fter you say that you pay for me make 4 buildings in 3 months? How is that possible?

YOU DONT LET PEOPLE OF BRASIL DESENVOLVE YOU BLOCK PEOPLE IN THIS PLACE!BUT DONT WORRY WE GOING TO RISE

AND WANT TO STOP USING MY BUILDINGS THAT I SHAPE!!!

not even remotely true. I listed my problems with the merits in multiple posts! I support the vision I just do not think this is the best team/time/actualization.
