PROPOSAL PURPOSE:

Create an organizational chart for Decentraland DAO that clearly outlines all its Core Units - teams that provide core infrastructure and operations for the DAO; their roles, interdependencies, and responsibilities within the Decentraland DAO. This will foster transparency, accountability, and a better understanding of the governance structure.

BENEFITS:

  • Enhanced Transparency: A clear overview of the DAO’s governance structure will make it easier for community members to understand the responsibilities of each DAO Core Unit.

  • Better Collaboration: With a clear understanding of roles and responsibilities, Core Unit teams can collaborate more efficiently, streamlining decision-making and project execution.

  • Increased Accountability: An organizational chart simplifies the identification of responsible DAO Core Units for their objectives, tasks, or other governance-related decisions, promoting accountability within the DAO.

  • Improved Communication: A well-defined governance structure facilitates better communication between DAO Core Unit team members and the community.

  • Identification of Gov Gaps: Developing an organizational chart can help identify missing Core Units or areas that may require additional resources or focus, enabling the DAO to address potential weaknesses in its governance structure.

DETAILS:

The proposed organizational chart for Decentraland DAO should include the following elements:

  • Core Units: The chart should delineate the various Core Units and their members.

  • Roles and Responsibilities: Each DAO Core Unit should feature a comprehensive list of roles and responsibilities, detailing the key functions and activities performed by its members.

  • Reporting Structure: The chart should illustrate the reporting structure within each Core Unit, specifying the reporting hierarchy and key decision-makers.

  • Transparent Accountability: The chart should clearly indicate which Core Units are responsible for each section of the DAO.

Voting YES because having an organizational chart shows the DAO’s “tone at the top”, from an internal control perspective. To lead the future of DAOs, Decentraland should set an example of having a strong control framework, which begins with having an organizational chart, displaying the relationships and functions of the DAO, as positions may become overlapped, and risk conflict of interest.

From my audit experience, organizational charts are an IMPORTANT tool for assessing the design and effectiveness of an entity’s internal control system. They ensure that key control responsibilities are clearly defined, assigned to appropriate individuals, and are integrated into an overall control environment (which DCL & the DAO need to proactively design and monitor, regardless of us being in an “decentralized” environment).
