Hello @ArtReYou. Although we do not agree with your sentiment, you are entitled to your opinion. One thing weā€™d like to mention is that we arenā€™t seeing a huge influx of users, builders, or creators coming to DCL. We didnā€™t want to sit as observers to an issue - we wanted to take action and make a positive and impactful change.

We decided to create an innovative solution to onboard more creator and builder users onto our platform. We also wanted something the WHOLE COMMUNITY could benefit from. DCL community members will have shirts & wearables, the option to participate as a designer and/or developer, and the ability to vote on the winning design. Additionally, we will promote and distribute the design during an IRL event so that the winning designer will have their work showcased IRL and featured in an article in a prominent business &/or tech publication.

Our goal is to ensure everyone in the community benefits and that this project entices new creatives to join and be recurring users in DCL.

This is @MetaTrekkers crew.

Migrating the conversation from the DAO Discord here for the benefit of those looking at this grant. This way the same questions wonā€™t have to be asked by the community or answered over and over again by the grant requester.

43K for ā€œmarketingā€ rightā€¦ 20K for 800 shirtsā€¦ and another 13K forā€¦ logisticsā€¦ you mean shipping? No mention of what the IRL event is, the title, location, date, time, anythingā€¦

Phase 3 says weā€™re going to sell the wearable on MP for profit but phase 4 says weā€™re gonna give 500 shirts away to the communityā€¦ and they get to keep the other 300 for the mystery IRL event, a school, and 100 shirts for themselves. How convenient. But which one is it? You gonna sell on MP or give away?

I think we can do this for 1/3rd of the cost and better logistics plan than paying to ship 800 shirts to themā€¦ and then paying again to move the shirts around.

I wouldnā€™t put 800shirts in the hands of these folks. Iā€™d rather have someone well known and trusted in the communityā€¦ one of the squads or even HP be in charge of any swagg distribution and I betā€¦ even with the NFC tags it would cost way less than 100K to do this.

@MelzBuenaVibes has added a response which I will paste here:

Yes, we have to ship to people all around the globe. And there is a cost for everything that we doā€¦we will pay vendors to help with the execution of these marketing efforts.

The IRL event isnā€™t ironed out as we have to secure the project first. Once we do, however, we will share with the community.

No, we arenā€™t keeping those 100 shirts to ourselves. We will be sharing with other initiatives and projects like the community building grantees and ambassador programs, should we have this opportunity. As mentioned in our proposal and earlier in the discussion, we have a contract with the DCL Foundation that limits us from a lot of the lower cost manufacturers because of their inability to attest to certain rules, such as no use of child labor, that we must ensure they adhere to. Feel free to send over any manufacturer recā€™s as weā€™d be happy to check them out.

One last question - why canā€™t we be trusted? What have we done to cause you mistrust? I can understand you saying you donā€™t know us, but trust? Can you share where we cause you this mistrust?

In response to @MelzBuenaVibes answer on Discord:

Thanks for the response. Agree that there is a cost for everything. But you glazed over my most empazised pointsā€¦

The manufacturing of the shirts is reasonable at 20K. What is not reasonable is the logistics and the 43K in marketing. The same thing can be done:

Community contest
Printing of 800 shirts
Marketing
Distribution
For waaaaay less than 100K.

Since you donā€™t have the IRL event ironed out, then we can leave that part out and Iā€™m not even including it in the budget. I cannot pay you for something you canā€™t even tell me about.

Out of the whole 100K. Team compensation accounts for over 60% of the grantā€¦

The creators of the design and developer only receive 2K for a prizeā€¦

And you still didnā€™t address one of my main questionsā€¦ are you selling the wearable or giving it away? Cause you say in phase 3 one thingā€¦ and in phase 4 another.

Trust is built over time and this is the first time I see you active in this space. You are also close to someone who is not trusted by a portion of our community as you can see. It does raise some red flags. You are asking for A LOT of money. I hope you can understand why I am apprehensive. Nothing personal. :two_hearts:

Where are the shipping costs covered in this new proposal?

Their friends must not think too highly of DCL.

so silly. Didnt not realize the people asking for this grant have worked on previous revoked beatrekker grant. Team comp is 60% of the budget for this. they quantify jobs by % of effort not by % of budget to be misleading. Asking for 100k + dont have a venue/ speakers / location for irl event said they will iron out the detail laterā€¦ That is not how you get a grant all details needs to be figured out before hand to get an accurate cost analysis. Only previous events in dcl are cohosting with a previous grant revokee. This grant stinks of being a cash grab. No business on earth gives out $100k for an idea without real planning.

Voting no for a couple reasons here:

Majority budget is allocated to a team that already exists, if this team has already been spun up, I do not see why the majority of budget would go to paying their salaries, this would be more funding for the company itself over DCL, then also taking 10% of profits?

Now is not the time to market, it shows a disconnection from the overall metaverse market space that is trending heavily downward, when our MANA value and cost per view is at a local high. This will not be fixed by marketing, I worry that attempting marketing in this environment is a net negative, the public perception of DCL is not great, even within the VR/Metaverse community, and we can only fix that by direct partnerships based on mutual understanding, not financing marketing campaigns and throwing money/t-shirts at the issue.

@Tudamoon - yes, us and several other members of the community participated. We specifically provided feedback around overall project strategy. We were 2 of the 3 consulting team members for that project.

We all did our best to make this project as successful as we could. Regardless of the results, everyone here was honest in our attempts and wanted to best for everyone. We commend all who also worked on this project.

Check out the link below for more details:

@dogman, you shouldnā€™t call yourself silly. Letā€™s refrain from negative self-talk.

Working on a revoked grant has nothing to do with our reputation nor integrity. We stand by the work we did and the project we worked on. Everything we did and anyone we have worked with has been with integrity and for the betterment of DCL.

In order to get the team to execute on this project, funds are needed to compensate them for their time and expertise. This is a multi-faceted project, and we want to ensure a high-quality project and experience, especially for those we plan to onboard.

Many costs were improved upon based on previous feedback. We have the plan for the event and the people we want to partner with. Without a date, no one can 100% confirm they are available. If I need to book you for an event yet couldnā€™t tell you when the project is supposed to kick off, would you clear you calendar? These are web3 thought leaders that get booked for other events globally. We also want to be respectful of their time and resources. Thatā€™s just not how business is done. Once, God willing, the project passes, we will be able to solidify these details. Again, as we noted in our proposal, the IRL event is 2% of the budget and in the very last phase of the project (Phase 5) which kicks off in months 8 and 9. That is nearly a year out. People canā€™t book their schedules that far out without us being able to 100% guarantee anything.

Your claim about us only being involved in cohosting events is completely untrue. We attend IRL events, have met with the Foundation (online and offline), led panel discussions about DCL and education opportunities, create threads, attend Twitter spaces, DCL town halls, strategic planning sessions, etc.

You are entitled to your opinion and can take whatever action you deem best. We kindly ask you to not speak or opine poorly on our project, team, or any other aspect of us without having facts to back such claims.

I wasnt calling myself silly. I was sayings its so silly to even HAVE a conversation about giving a 110k grant to a not completely formed idea from a team who have poorly executed in the past to make 800 tshirts for the community lol.

this proposal is asking for 62% of the grant, the grant takes up 70% of sponsorship budget, that means team compensation take up 42% of the total budget for sponsorship for the quarter

@CheddarQueso - Thanks for bringing the conversation to the forum. Happy to chime in here.

What would you say is reasonable for each of these categories?

The goal of this project is to market the platform to new users specifically creators and builders. We are not only reaching out to people already on the platform. That, of course, would be easier and less money. We are creating onboarding videos, hosting project kickoff meetings where we talk about the platform and the overall project, hosting office hours weekly, creating accounts on various platforms to solicit talent, answer questions, etcā€¦then there are things we will have to do that we havenā€™t even thought of (or what we call unforeseen events).

Theoretically, when we summarize the actions of this project into high-level statements, everything seems easy, however, that is oversimplifying the project. We also have to take into account the amount of time we will spend and the level of expertise weā€™ve gained throughout our careers to be able to execute upon the needs of this project.

I agree with not bringing in the IRL event into the discussion as it accounts for 2% of the overall budget. The costs of that portion of the project, however, are all for the event itself. None of it will go to the team.

The team compensation is to account for the time, resources, and expertise of those executing the project. A good investment of time and effort will be needed to complete every facet of the project and align all team members to ensure our best attempts in avoiding any hiccups or roadblocks along the way.

The prize money is more than double what you mentioned. The winners, collectively, receive $5,100 plus we are paying community members to be project ambassadors which will be another $2,000 for this budget. As part of this project, we created a proposal highlights chart to share how other members of the community stand to benefit from this project (see below). Our goal is to inject more resources BACK to those who matter most - the community.

As for your main questions, we are selling the wearables. We will have a limited amount of the wearable available for purchase via the marketplace, and those buyers will also get a t-shirt (while supplies last). 50% of the proceeds of these wearables are going to the DAO, and we will cover all wearable creation fees. Phase 4 mentions the t-shirt distribution plan. Not sure where you saw the wearables in that phase but happy to walk you through any confusion.

Lastly, thanks for clarifying your apprehension and intentions behind your questions. I understand many people share that sentiment, however, I have yet to see a tangible example as to why that sentiment exists.

Thanks, again, Cheddar.

@Peanutbutta - Shipping costs can be found on page 8, section 2 in the 3rd sub-bullet

@Tudamoon - We arenā€™t trying to bring our friends (although weā€™ve already done that).

Our goal is to recruit and onboard new creator talent. Great to have more users, yet we need to create products, events, etc. for people to want to come back to our platform. Our goal is sustainable growth and longevity of the platform.

So the shipping to deliver to ea person is estimated at $1500?
