[DAO:zonlmaa] Dice Masters Development & Expansion

So I guess my next question is what needs to be presented in order to receive the votes for a $240k proposal?

I feel like the “top” games in DCL have all grown tremendously in the past few months.

So it is aesthetic? Marketing/onboarding users into DCL? UI/UX? I am just trying to get an understanding as to what deserves and doesnt deserve a grant.

I am not a developer or artist, I simply enjoy the play and earn model that DCL provides.
So from the outside (non devs/artists) looking in, it very much seems like a popularity contest in DCL. If you are not part of the “in” crowd of devs/artists then you arent deserving of any DAO grants. And that has become very apparent over the past few months having watched the DAO and the proposals being passed along with who is the beneficiary of those grants.

So I would just like to get some clarification from a well respected artist in DCL like yourself as to what is deserving of a $240k grant.

“I am just trying to get an understanding as to what deserves and doesn’t deserve a grant.”

In my opinion, a proven, consistent, hard working team that provides value to the dcl community. Its up to you to decide what does and doesn’t deserve a grant and vote accordingly.

“If you are not part of the “in” crowd of devs/artists then you arent deserving of any DAO grants.”

We are heads down in development so we really don’t have time for DCL politics or popularity. We were curious about building in Decentraland, built a game that’s fun and engaging and we listened to our community to improve it.

@ShakenBake I would love to give you a tour of Dice Masters and show you why we think we deserve a $240k grant.

I can only agree, because I see a lot of potential in this game. as an ex pro gamer i can say that i enjoy this game the most, i see it as WOW in the metaverse. you can also learn a lot. the team is always there for questions and problems and does its best. To set up something so gigantic after such a short time is remarkable. I’m very excited to see where things will go in the future, so I support this proposal

In my opinion, they really need this money because they created a whole game together.
Just 2 people are working on the game so you need to understand that they need more hands to complete this game faster.
As for the UI, the game needs a whole new UI because it doesn’t work perfectly because of the dcl, so that means they need a new developer who specializes in this.
The faster they complete development, the faster the game will bring more new players to dcl.
For example they have crypto token integration in the future so a lot of people outside of dcl will came to earn money here because it’s P2E game

This game makes of Decentraland a better place and the budget looks reasonable.
My support here, congrats for the already amazing experience built and good luck.

This game is great, and it is the first RPG in DCL, whenever i introduced Decentraland to others, I would mention it, that’s the magic, the first of its kind, this is def something need further development! The team works hard to achieve this, so its fair they need some candy to eat haha

Hey, nice idea. I have a list of questions, if you could answer on them shortly and in simple words here or on my email web3nit@gmail.com, maybe I could change my voting opinion:

  1. What economic value will you bring to Decentraland in numbers/users (forecast) ?

  2. In your budget can you please give information how many hours each specialist will spend ?

  3. Who will do the QA ?

  4. Shortly, about marketing strategy ?

I’d say a good starting point would be actually answering questions and feedback given respectfully, and not calling people idiots and referring to their questions as ‘bullshit comments’. Perhaps not insulting every other game in DCL as if yours is the only one that matters. Imagine insulting half of the community and projects in the space and then being shocked when your grant request doesn’t pass.

To be fully transparent, I’ve voted yes on JTV’s past two proposals, but if you want it to be a ‘popularity’ contest I can switch my vote to no…

He has made mistakes he refuses to own up to and I’ve overlooked that because its clear the community wants the grant to pass. Can we stop trying to make this some sort of contest and just focus on building our respective projects without being rude to each other?

  1. As mentioned we’ve had over 5,500 unique players since starting the alpha and we expect to see these trends continue. Players have earned over 6500 MANA playing our game which means value for both the players and the DAO through transaction and publishing fees.
  2. We expect our team to work 16-20 hours a week which means they’d be paid around 75$/hour (devs and artists). The mods are already spending over 10 hours a day moderating our discord and in-game chat. Personally me and Matt (DclDating) go with 8am-7pm working hours at least 25 days a month.
  3. Matt already has experience after being a software quality assurance engineer for over 7 years. He will lead a team of QA testers that consists of passionate mods and community members running on the Heroku server.
  4. Regarding marketing we want to make sure we have a finished product first and then use the combined talents of the graphic designer + the admin/mod team to publicize special events and promotions including mini-quests, holiday events and wearable releases. In the past we’ve already partnered with other successful projects to bring more attention to our game and plan to expand more through both IRL events and NFT project partnerships.

Frank,

No need to threaten me with a vote switch. I have no dog in this fight. I am simply trying to figure out where all of this DAO stuff stands in regards to p2e games in DCL.

As I stated before I believe all of the p2e games in DCL deserve some sort of grant. I am just trying to figure out what justifies a $240k grant and what does not. If I were in charge of the DAO both games would have their grants passed because they are the ones retaining users in DCL.

But it seems that your answer to why Exodus didn’t pass is “he pissed off the wrong people.”
I am not trying to cause any sort of drama, but my assumption was/is that there is something else outside of Exodus that is the issue. Which you are confirming that there are people that are upset with JTV for other things which is why his proposal didnt pass.

This is not about Dice Masters vs. Exodus. I want them both to succeed. For me, this is about figuring out how the DAO works and why some proposals are being passed and others are not. From my understanding as to what you have said, it does not have much to do with the game in general, but rather who you piss off… Which seems very much like what I insinuated prior to your comment.

So it seems we are on the same page.

thank you for your answers

I get your point. I am a insider i can easily judge by what i am seeing and the people when i hang out with them and the vibe they give in AMA. If you don’t know the people behind the project it’s hard to take a decision. Unless you check older post and make a decision based on the behaviour and past answers. You can always delegate your power to people you trust internally or base your vote on the answer you are getting from the community. All game got potential, when they are already out and you can play and compare its easier to make the decision based on what you are seeing. The JTV case is a bit different story i believe it was mostly on his behaviour while streaming that caused some friction.

I like playing Dice because you can learn a lot and craft wearables instead of buying them. The game has been built very well and the development so far is very positive. The technology and scope of the game cannot be compared to any other DCL game. The proposal is 100% deserved

I’m sorry for coming at you agressively like that. It wasn’t appropriate and I was reacting emotionally. I don’t intend to change my vote, and I am right there with you that both proposals are deserving. If I had the power to make both pass, I would.

I guess my point was that he HAS upset several groups and individuals in the community, and that could be a factor as to why he doesn’t have full community support. My reason for changing my stance at grant proposal 3 is because I voted on #2 emotionally, and I feel that emotions have no place in the DAO. I see that so many people from the community support him and the team, and I believe they will continue to deliver on their promises and roadmap.

To answer your question appropriately, there is a good deal of politics involved in the DAO. It can be about who you know more-so than the actual merit of a project or the talents or abilities of the team. It sucks, but you REALLY have to do some campaigning and networking if you hope to pass a grant, especially a top tier level grant. Nobody can force anyone to campaign to network, and while I understand JTV’s perspective, I do think he could benefit with a little more effort on the outreach and campaigning process. It’s just where we are at now, where the active community simply doesn’t have enough VP to pass a 8M threshold on our own.

Again, I’m sorry for my agressive response. A lot of BS has been going on in the space lately and I feel like I may have vented some of my frustrations about these seperate issues on you. I sincerely hope both Dice Masters and Exodus are successful in their proposals because they are doing so much for the space and are worthy of the funding.

i like this proposal and i like the vision you have. i think the budget breakdown also is reasonable but tbh kind of high - 5000/month for a dev working 20 hrs/week is quite a lot. I’m taking 1500/month for developing dcl-metrics.com and doing at least 20 hrs/week - granted, i realize i’m on the lower end of the spectrum and I can make that choice cause i’m doing the work, but 5000/month is still quite high (imo).

that is just my opinion though - the thing that is stopping me to vote yes on this is an understanding of what comes next. you are asking for a 240k grant for six months and that will bring you to beta stage. will you ask for another 240k in six months time? and another 240k after that?

if this is a one-time investment i would vote it - if it will spin out into multiple grant requests for the foreseeable future i’m somewhat hesitant.

Hi @dax

Thanks for asking about the next stages in terms of follow up grants, as I’m sure you’re not the only one wondering. As of right now, we are sincerely hoping that this $240k grant would be what we need to hire the professional hands it’ll take to get Dice Masters to a predictably sustainable place, and that we would not need future grants of this caliber again. As far as sustainability currently, we have a good model in place to bring in revenue. This money is to jump start production and the founders will be maintaining the game in the long run. We all know that the future’s not ours to predict, but if all goes according to plan we would love to have this grant be what solidifies Dice Masters in its sustainability and allows profits to continue developing.

We also totally understand concerns about the budget, and have revisited the budget after receiving feedback previously, leading us to land on this $5k/month number. Additionally, our budget is based on game developer pay rates specifically, working for 6 hrs/day. After comparing with a wide variety of salaries and hourly pay rates for developers, I’m just not sure we would be comfortable adjusting this number any lower knowing the amount of work there is to be done and the level of quality we are expecting.

Thank you again for your time and for bringing attention to these concerns.
