Description

I’ve explored the areas outside the plazas extensively, enjoying the unique world that Decentraland has to offer: Games, quests, and houses that would be unimaginable in the material world. In all those explorations, do you know how many people I’ve see outside the plazas (besides at the JP Morgan Chase house)? Three, and they were in one group.

Many of us have properties, billboards, ads, and NFTs that lie dormant in the outside world. What’s the point of having these properties if no one is going to visit them?
In Decentraland, there is only one place outside a casino that gets much traffic: Wondermine Meteor Mining. Why does it get traffic? Because people can earn NFTs.

To get people to engage with our properties, NFTs, ads, billboards, etc., we need to encourage them to engage with the world outside the plazas and gaming areas. To do that, I propose that we provide NFT awards for earning badges for engaging with the larger world.

Some possibilities:

Traveler’s Boots that award a 10% speed increase. These can be earned by exploring 20 miles of Decentraland.

Curiosity Cap – Awarded for opening 150+ UIs to outside websites. Provides 5% discount on Marketplace purchases.

Adventurer’s Sword – Awarded for completing Graveyard Quest, Quest of the Alcoholic Scarecrow, etc. This sword can be used to gain access to a separate questing zone with NPCs to fight and where they can earn money to use to buy more NFTs.

Gamer’s Gloves - Awarded to people who achieve high scores at all selected games, including The Adventures of Koko Jones, the Dragon Rush, etc. These can provide a 5% mining bonus for Wondermine.

A list of badges can be found in each user’s dashboard, as well as a checklist for each that shows what they need to do to earn the badge and the associated NFT.

Each badge category can have multiple levels, for instance different boots for exploring 20 miles, 50 miles, 100 miles, all with different bonuses.

Specification

The framework for these goals already exist within Decentraland. The games are already there, the land, houses, and NFTs already exist, and the only necessary funding is for the creation of the award NFTs. Additional participation from the Decentraland Foundation will be necessary to make this a reality.

Personnel

As yet to be determined team of 5 volunteers to come up with badge requirements and associated NFTs.

NFT creator to make the NFTs. $2000 USD

Decentraland Foundation assistance to implement the badges.

Roadmap and milestones

Assemble a team of 5 volunteers to help develop these goals - 2 weeks

Team develops framework for the badge system (badge requirements and NFT awards) - 2 weeks

Creation of NFTs - 2 weeks

Implementation of Badge system by Decentraland Foundation - Uncertain

I really like this concept. I agree spending more time outside of the points of interest will encourage development and allow for an artistic appreciation for the different builds. It would also encourage growth & future building in the community - allowing for different ways to earn wearables & encourage people seeking different activities to join in. Sorry my votes don’t count for much but I voted yes for this

Thanks for your support, Lynnie.

i like this concept a lot but i don’t really understand the grant proposal - if i understand correctly, you’re proposing to increase passive gamification around decentraland as a whole with rewards, badges, etc for performing activities that players are likely to perform anyway and hopefully give them a bit of a push to keep playing.

so in and of itself, that makes sense to me - however that is all something that needs to either be done by decentraland or done by a team of devs with this experience being added to a smart wearable or something (but then…still integrated in the base experience for new users). In either case, 2000 usd is not even close to enough to achieve this and you’ve given no plan on how you would do so.

Yes, Decentraland would have to implement much of this because it needs to be integrated into the framework of the platform. I’m not sure how else it could be done, but am open to suggestions. It doesn’t matter to me if it gets put in place via this grant or some other process. I just think it would be good for the community.

Interesting concept., amazing work and much needed decentraland. Please email us at info@imining.com we would like to discuss your proposal and possible collaborations. Best for 2022.
