[DAO: QmcaSaV] Lets bid for the Meta company name

by 0xb2223f4038def8a62a86e3c4b108cdfe00a74c4f (chillin#4c4f)

The Meta trademark is currently owned by a private company.
and Facebook is looking to negotiate with the owner to purchase the name.
Without it, facebook wouldn’t be able to sell any products with the brand name attached.
My suggestion is that we enter a bidding process with Facebook to acquire the Intellectual property.
2 reasons:
Marketing & Make facebook pay more for the IP & Power to sell Meta branded stuff.

  • Yes, let’s bid for it!

Judging by the tenor of this, it appears to be about sticking it to Zuck. That’s not a ground for a sound business decision. Getting into a bidding war leaving Decentraland with overreach if we win could seriously damage our common wealth. What happens if we win and then Zuck sues, who funds the case and who represents Decentraland? Decentraland can stand on its own and it doesn’t need to pick fights that it doesn’t have to.

Sounds like some great marketing to me

Agreed John, The tone of this proposal is very much antagonistic to the company Meta, which will no doubt be entering the Metaverse Space with us. Making enemies instead of collaborating with our Metaverse Neighbors is not a good way to stand out, even if it is vogue to hate Zuckerberg.

However The trademark Meta does seem like a great opportunity for good marketing. If the price is right, there’s no sense in not bidding for it. Obviously Meta, formerly Facebook, has more resources than us and can easily outbid us, but I see nothing wrong in an attempt at healthy competition.

Lets bid for the Meta company name.

This proposal is now in status: FINISHED.
