When @Canessa writes “You never get a second chance to make a first impression”, I agree with respect to DCL, having as nice-looking base wearables as possible is important.
However, if as an individual, you want to make good first impressions, it shouldn’t be made easy to do with the base wearables.
In order to maintain the incentive to buy creator hairpieces on the Marketplace, the hair that truly allows one to “make a first impression” should only be available there.
In other words, don’t tank the hair market
I won’t, I’d like to make sure that the hair is a balance of “improved/upgraded” from where they currently are but aren’t so much so that they’re the same style as what’s on the marketplace.
Doki IS the hair market
Which is exactly why Doki must be not Doki if Doki is chosen to enact this Proposal
Dazzle them with your skills !
But do leave them wanting for more
We need to worry more about getting people excited about playing around and hanging out on DCL and less about how improving the starting wearables options might hurt secondary sales
Agreed. All in its due place, though.
Let’s get started on weaving the web of Pre-Proposal Polls to properly divide and conquer all of the issues preventing this user retention !

What a tongue-twister !
I am unclear what your intention is by linking to the binding governance process when we are discussing a Grant.
I welcome others to participate in governance and take actions instead of inviting others to do it.
I tried, I was told to fuck off
I haven’t been in the DAO for a long time, but I saw a post about this proposal on Twitter and I had to come in to vote YES!
The current default avatars look ridicioulos, we definitely need some better hair options.
I’m on it ! I just needed a bit of sleep first
Thank you so much for your support Shiny <3
I echo Cheddar’s thoughts - Should this be a Foundation-contracted job versus a DAO platform grant?
I heard a few people’s worries about how maybe in a few years this hair will just become redundant but part of this proposal is about making sure the hair is something that can be used going forward into the 2.0 client. The new client was mentioned to have specular, normal and metallic maps and that is something I’ve mentioned in the proposal; there will be baked maps FROM these hairs to make sure that the hair can go forward in the 2.0 client too.
Here is an example of how the hair is going to be future proofed.
And to echo what I mentioned before I am also trying to find if there’s a way to have a toggle for new and old hair so people don’t lose their original DCL identity if they really do like the old hair.
I would prefer that too but unless a lot of people make it known to Foundation team I don’t think it’ll go through as it was mentioned in the past and was going to be a project. If that’s what people want, I think it’d be best to make sure it’s communicated to the Foundation team that it’s wanted but not through a proposal.
As a fan of your hairstyles, I think this proposal would add great value to the avatar hairstyles on the platform. But, do you think the Foundation will implement these new hairstyles on the platform, or will they just end up sitting in a GitHub repo like some other platform grants we’ve seen? Not sure if I missed the answer in one of the comments above.
I’m actively working alongside Shibu for these hairstyles to be implemented. Originally I was going through the foundation team to do it but due to some difficulties it seemed easier for it to be put up as a proposal.
As far as I understand, this is not part of the Foundation’s responsibilities: https://forum.decentraland.org/t/dao-foundation-synergy-formal-response
Hello again, I’ve cast my YES vote and am hopeful for Doki’s success.
I became a member in November 2011, and although I valued the wearables in the welcome kit, discovering Doki’s hair creations was a game changer for me. Finding hair that was more in-line with my identity and matched my personality gave me a confidence in DCL.
Doki also generously provided me with 43 wearables in 2022 to distribute to newcomers. While I have a few remaining to give out (audit available upon request), this opportunity allowed me to connect with new members and meet new friends and this showed a true generosity.
I get funding is on hold, maybe foundation is working on something new but what will keep the creators who keep trying from just giving up? People can’t just continue to work for free.
Thanks,
Jenn
