Sugar club here . ( I had to create a new account since i deleted the other one a while back ) .
Yes I have stopped actively making events so you can remove POI if needed . I saw @Canessa note that it should be having its own special category as legacy POI and I agree that would be nice .
For those that don’t know Sugar club build is the oldest deployed venue in Decentraland since 2019 . The events and wearables and promotional content for DCL we have created over the years have been instrumental to the development of Decentraland in its formative years when the community was much smaller and a handful of creators like myself pushed for adoption . In fact much of the 2nd generation clubs that came after took our template as a testament of our successful offering .
Saying we shut down operations after our 2023 grant ended is a half truth if not misleading at best because it doesn’t paint the whole picture of nearly 7 years of DCL activity , events and production.
I am surprised this proposal is coming from you @CheddarQueso since you have helped us , it would have been “nice “ to let us know beforehand in discord maybe before putting it up on governance?
Anywho it doesn’t matter now , it’s done . Let it be
Changing my vote to no, Let’s keep the regular star until we can find a way to correctly recognize these iconic builds (Legacy POI with an explanation).
An in game ui that could take users on a tour of the builds that built Decentraland would be nice
there should be more rules around removing a POI .
It’s hard to get a POI and easy to lose one.
Especially if the owner is not here to defend their project.
Someone should always ping the person… (Mine was removed without ping)
@BET Agreed creators should always be pinged , the fact that Cheddar did this without consulting me first is really disappointing. We have helped her In The past with her wearable creation journey and she worked as a mod for us as well . I don’t get the angle here .
There’s already so little happening on DCL .
I really don’t see the logic in actively wanting to remove legacy spots from the map . It’s really counterproductive to take away places of interest that have historical value .
Also i want to add that i plan to update the Club to a simplified version for SDK7 in the coming months to allow for continued traffic to the club for anyone wanting a nostalgic hang out spot with ongoing radio playlist . i believe the spot is good enough and brings traffic even though no events are happening there and I have noticed Dcl analytics that Sugar Club still pulls small nr of visitors almost daily due to its central location near Genesis .
If by any chance I don’t get around to do the necessary upgrade to sdk7 within the next 12 month the community can reasses wether it’s time
to remove the POI
Hi everyone. It was not my intention to assume reasons for SC ending operations. However, the fact remains that, SC stopped participating in Decentraland immediately after the grant ended. This has been a topic of discussion amongst those of us whom have continued to participate in pushing the DAO forward, and creating, despite the grants pause and low DAU. If we are to highlight those who left the community when the money dried out, we should do so, regardless of legacy status, or personal relationships. Everyone should receive the same treatment. Regarding the POI, these yellow stars are highlighted to our visitors as places of interest, and I do not believe it is in our best interest to highlight inactive builds managed by folks who don’t participate in our ecosystem. As always, I will support whatever decision the community makes, but maintain that we should treat all scenes and land managers equally. Cheers.
Thank you for the response. I agree that SC participation and longevity should be taken into account, however, when considering a POI star, I am looking at it strictly from the point of view that these are the first places that our new visitors will go to, places that we as a community are encouraging them to see. If the build is not active, there are no events, the person managing the build has deleted their account in the DAO, and no longer participating, I do not believe we should point users to this location. If the activity returns, if there is something continuous and interesting for our new visitors to experience, then I would be happy to reinstate a POI. I did not notify you prior to making this post because I left the Discord a while back and you left our community.
I don’t appreciate your revisionist stance and the way you are framing this .
The fact of the matter is that we have been active since the inception of DCL 2017. So a total of 7 years of development, activity and promoting this platform . 6 of which have been offered without any asking for funding of any kind and even prior to the existence of the DAO . Framing our departure due to our grant is not true and misleading . I challenge anyone including you to remain active here for longer than 6 years without any funding or salaries ( something inconceivable even for paid members of this DAO or Foundation ) . Priorities change and I needed a well deserved break specially when considering the toxicity that has plagued this community.
In fact we have been at the forefront of adoption in the early days , pushing for events and creators to come and make something in DCL at a time when the DAO didn’t even exist and the Foundation was led by a different team . Legacy builds and creators definitely should be highlighted, and not actively erased from the map.
Besides SC still has music playing in the scene and attracts traffic daily by people discovering the map . A metaverse Genesis city is not only made of live events just like a real city also has engaging locations that don’t require “events “ .
Not notifying the creators before removing POIs is not the correct approach no matter how you try to reason it . Specially from someone who has worked as a mod for us . It’s the least you could have done .
Respectfully, I am not framing anything. You left the Discord, deleted your DAO account and stopped creating in Decentraland when your grant ended a year ago… the build has been inactive since then… and this is the reason for my request to remove the POI. The fact is new visitors are looking thru the POI’s for “What to do in decentraland” and are running into empty buildings with nothing to do inside. According to the discussions we’ve had as a community over the last several months this is not reflective of the kind of engagement we are looking for, or the first impression that we want our new visitors to have. Giving inactive scenes and creators special treatment because they are “legacy” is not in the best interest of Decentraland’s growth and image, and it undermines the work of active creators who are still creating and building. The fact that I was part of SC is also irrelevant and I don’t have a responsibility to notify you. Finally, I am not interested in a contest of “who’s been here longest”. However, I accept your challenge. I have been here for 3 years, active on a daily basis, and contributing in multiple areas, non-stop, despite low DAU, toxicity and accusations made against my person, without compensation… my priorities have not changed… see you in another 4 years.
No apology was made… Just a string of words that justify the actions and repeating the same rhetoric…
Im not on anyones side here but this ends with 1 word instead of keep bringing up this thread…
Unless cheddar is not sorry… then just say that also…
