Vote on this proposal on the Decentraland DAO

A) I’m pretty sure this isn’t valid governance

B) Even if it is valid governance, HP will ignore it much like he ignores the COEs and enforcing them as written

C) Jason’s just mad no one will make a poll to unban his bigot ass

D) If we are just going to make up numbers, can you at least make up more impressive numbers or more believable numbers?

789

E) even if this is valid governance, which again I really don’t think it is, there isn’t enough VP among the active participants of the DAO to pass anything unless you can get literally 90% of the active communies VP and RobL to all vote in support of something, and there is a better chance of Rob Returning the District land he stole then there is of him voting to unban the person who made sure everyone in DCL is aware of exactly how he came to have so much VP

F) F is for “fuck off” :kissing_heart:

I assume engagement must be at all time lows for the DAO if it’s already time for another round of “Ban/Unbann jar0d”

Is he banned from the Discord? I thought he was just timed out until October or thereabouts.

We all know he’s here posting as BanJarod anyway. Nobody bothers to stop him.

I say we let the code of ethics process play out for now.

Let’s hope that the DAO ReGenesis brings about some sort of meaningful VP reforms so everyone, including Jarod, can feel like they’re contributing to a community that is fair and transparent. That we can find a way to incentivize constructive good faith conversations in the DAO so that everyone, including Jarod, feels like they will be rewarded for contributing in a positive way. That people and businesses who are contributing efforts that genuinely improve the quality of life for people in Decentraland can feel like they’re investing in their own future and brand, not just building the lowest quality garbage they can to check a box and cash a check from the DAO.

I’m all for giving people space to grow and improve but we really need to adopt the mentality that the DAO has no time for petty personal quarrels - something many of us, myself included, are guilty of bringing here. Every moment we spend attacking each other is a moment we’re not moving forward, and risk falling behind.

Disagreements are inevitable. There are a few people who I disagree with from time to time who I still have massive respect for because they articulate their thoughts in an objective, matter-of-fact way that contributes valuable perspectives to the discussion. Having met a number of people in the community face-to-face, I think our biggest pitfall is to forget about the human on the other side of the screen and treat our discussions like it’s some anonymous Reddit post.

I kept coming back to Decentraland because some of the first people I met showed interest in me as a person more than most of my friends in real life do. A welcoming and encouraging community is really our only secret sauce right now. Sadly, none of the first few people I met are still here.

If people come here and are welcomed and encouraged by the community, and then they go to our DAO and see healthy, constructive conversations on how to make this place even better, that’s a big green flag. If they see us attacking each other based on a complex history of interpersonal grudges, they’re going to assume that energy will be directed at them eventually, and will want no part of that.

Obviously it’s a lot to ask for everyone not to be snarky and sarcastic on the internet, and there’s still some room for that cheek, I think. But our discussions within the DAO paint a picture for people both inside and outside of the community. If someone shows a disregard for the code of ethics then they’re unlikely to contribute in good faith. So when we see someone do things like circumvent a ban, or test the limits of the code of ethics by straddling the line of what’s considered harassment, I don’t think we reward that with “time served for good behavior”.

What were the details of the ban?

The documentation is pretty poor, and as I don’t have access to the discord server, I can’t confirm if the one link provided in the Mod Logs actually links to anything interesting or worthwhile.

So first strike on 10/3/2023:

Someone can go check the link and update us, but based on the description “profanity and ignoring mod warnings” I probably said “fuck” and then told Kanwulf to stop instigating trouble 30minutes to multiple hours after a conversation had already ended. And if I remember my timeline correctly, I was probably upset about PB spreading misinformation about my wearables being used in DCL promotional content, or HP going out of his way to harass me and making a github repository to make it easy for other people to use my wearables without purchasing them.

Strike 2: Inappropriate and offensive behavior, continuously mentioning and tagging individuals who have no interest in participating in discussions, baiting and attempting to provoke others, consistently ignoring moderator instructions and warnings, all with a clear and constant disregard of the COE rules.

That’s for sure either a continuation of me being upset about DCL using my wearables to promote Fashion Week without offering me one of the many spots in the “community showcase” and insisting that PB retract his false statements about me OR me insisting that PB apologize for falsely accusing me of blackmailing someone.

Shocking to think someone would be upset when a Foundation employee is going out of their way to lie about them.

Strike Three: Insulting community members and staff and ignoring mod warnings (third strike) I remember well.

Kanwulf had scoulded @Helpimstreaming and someone else for having a conversation in #memes saying something like “please only post memes here” so Help and I had a back and forth where we posted Memes in Memes and then went to talk about them in General, and I mocked Kanwulf’s ability to moderate the discord.

I then went on to say a few hours later, or perhaps even the next morning, as the conversation had evolved, “The most Original thing about MrD is his bigotry.”

Which is the actual reason @Fehz cited when explaining to me why I was banned, and it would seem like the rest of the paragraph is just a reflection of Kanwulf’s biased contempt for me.

That said, if you scroll through the wearables submitted under MrD’s account, it’s pretty easy to see how most of them are “inspired” by the works of other DCL creators and that very few, if any, are original ideas.

I think this is a reasonably unbiased explanation about each of my Strikes, and without the ability to easily search for jar0d’s posting history in the DAO discord, it will be difficult to give a more accurate recap.

Guessing you are sad that someone hasn’t tried to get you unbanned…
Summary - JasonX - Decentraland

ok, I have seen worse and more harmful behavior without being punished, I vote yes and the little bird can try to be a bit more respectful with others.

UnKnower, that was very well said. As a new participant in voting and learning about how a DAO works, I was hoping to see some leadership, and a community that truly works together. We will never agree on everything, some of us understand a lot and some a little. Some have expertise in coding, business, art, and so forth. Most of you in here are very smart, but to already put bans on people for being rude or obnoxious when the person doing the banning is also rude and obnoxious, you must know this isn’t going to solve anything. So when I jumped in to begin learning all I can learn, I came upon a Decentraland I didn’t recognize. The attacking of each other, the banning, the alter accounts, the power struggles, and the need to just be heard and listened to was obvious. Everyone has the right to be here, even those we don’t care for. If someone is saying something you don’t like, you don’t have to read it, and if they get no response they generally go away. I know this isn’t always the case. This is a decentralized platform though. If someone needs to be removed then a poll should be done. We all have different ideas what is ethnically right. Another thing I experienced already is the absence of community voting power. A proposal was passed to start giving creators vp and because nothing can be decided of how much or how far back to go and what creators are still here, I think creators should be able to put in a request with a list of there items made and sold for the last 2 years. There is many solutions and now we need decisions. I was sad when I read what is going on. UnKnower is right and when people come here to see if Mana is a good investment they see a weak coin because the community behind it don’t stand together. They can’t solve simple problems, they lack leadership. Remember we are in different countries different backgrounds, different cultures and meanings of translations get lost. Many misunderstandings because of translation. So please we are all on the same side, we all want the platform to succeed. Let’s be the great Decentraland that we can be and advance forward not backwards. Either cap the voting power or give the voting power the the community where it truly belongs in the first place. People need incentives to spend there time anywhere. Give us reason to stay because there are hundreds of metaverses or places we can be spending our time and money. I myself have invested a lot of time and money because I enjoyed it that much. As long as people are enjoying it they tend to spend money. Unban the purple bird let him be heard.

Friends, it’s an honorable thing to show compassion and understanding, and to give someone a second chance. I think we have to be realistic about the fact that this proposal as written is invalid, though. There’s no established way for the community to override the code of ethics, and even if there was, we shouldn’t get into the habit of passing proposals that are basically written like a meme or inside joke.

This proposal needs to be clear on what user we’re banning. We may all know who we mean by “that little purple bird”, but in an objective and practical sense the text we’re enacting is meaningless and unenforceable. For this proposal to do what is intended, we have to interpret it in a subjective manner. That’s not a good habit to get into.

If you think about it, it conflicts with the accusation that DAO moderators are too subjective in their enforcement of the COE. We pass a proposal that requires subjective enforcement, in order to express our disagreement with subjective enforcement? Isn’t that a double standard?

This is probably going to sound silly, but if we are actually going to do government stuff (and not just get mocked by YouTubers for our little roleplay), we need to write proposals that are as clear and serious as possible. Act as if you’re a historian trying to understand this in 250 years. Common language will have changed, context will be missing, and I think people will have doubts that any of us were taking this seriously.

I want to see this platform progress and to some degree we do need to curate our community. The logic of this proposal is basically that we need every person we can get right now. But if a handful of toxic people never get banned, they will turn away far greater numbers than we’d lose by banning them. There is real opportunity to improve people’s freedom and quality of life if we can attract businesses and talent and bolster our decentralized economy. People will never see that potential if they have a toxic interaction before they have a meaningful one.

The only correct vote is Invalid. Even Jarod agrees. It’s nice for everyone to show their support for him through this poll, but this shouldn’t be a popularity contest.

It isn’t invalid because if how it is written. There are 3 stages for a reason.

I don’t think that was the only reason I gave for it being invalid, but I understand you’re “sick of my essays”, so maybe you didn’t read all of it.

Don’t make me start posting the shit you’re saying to me in DMs yet again.

How quickly you for get.

Who’s DM’s do you think are more damning?

So I’m not sure if I should be bringing popcorn here, or a cold-shower head

I’m trying to stay on topic and NOT bring our personal beef into this, and you’re not making it very easy.

I’m talking about messages you’ve sent me since the start of this poll, just because you see my name with “Replying…” next to it.

You’re bringing up some time long before the present poll, when I flooded you with “fuck off” to clear my screen of whatever nonsense you had put in my DMs back then.

I’d rather not hash out the entire history of us being assholes to each other. You’re not exactly demonstrating a willingness to move on.

Just drop the past, get over it. LET"S MOVE FORWARD! Find a blog to go vent to. Let’s make clear proposals and quit screwing around. This is very serious. It’s like a bunch of 12 yr old behavioral problem kids trying to run a business. It stinks up in here. Go take a shower, wash your mouths out with soap. Only come back if you seriously want Dcl. to succeed.
