We propose the creation of a Decentraland Ambassador Program that will empower community members to organize global meetups and raise awareness about Decentraland. This initiative involves selecting up to 10 official community representatives (ambassadors) who will host regular Decentraland Meetups across the globe. These ambassadors will be responsible for local event organization, swag giveaways, and representing Decentraland at other relevant events.
The goal of this program is to increase awareness of Decentraland, strengthen the existing community, and onboard and inspire new members to join the platform and DAO. The total desired funding for this project is around $57,000, which will cover the Program Manager’s compensation, swag production, and meetup costs for up to 30 events over a 7-month period. This budget breakdown ensures that each ambassador has the resources necessary to organize quality events.
The ideator team collaborating on this proposal includes:
Marja Konttinen, former Marketing Director at Decentraland Foundation, acting as proposal’s Program Manager
with ideas and help from:
Yemel Jardi, Executive Director, Decentraland Foundation
Gino, DCL DAO Product Lead
Peanutbutta, Community Manager, Decentraland Foundation
We would like to gauge community feedback and determine if there is enough support to move forward with drafting a program proposal. We ask you to vote on the following question:
Do you support the creation of the Decentraland Ambassador Program, which would empower community members to organize global meetups and raise awareness about Decentraland?
Your feedback and participation in the voting are greatly appreciated.
Hey! Great question. We’re setting up a selection committee, and we’ll include selection criteria and steps (application, interview, selection) to the proposal.
Given @Peanutbutta’s willingness to lie about the community on behalf of the foundation, and his inability to apologize to people he has aggressively spread false information about, I would find it very difficult to support any grant request being built with his contribution.
It would also make more sense to get details around Marja’s leaving/dismissal from the foundation before it would make sense for the DAO to start paying someone it appears the foundation isn’t willing to.
Ambassador program has been on the roadmap since 2020 and I was always a big supporter of this initiative even from the start. The only question is whether if Marja Kontiinen is the perfect suitable candidate for this role as the proposal’s Program Manager. Rest looks good.
I’m voting yes to support bringing this to the next stage of the process. I would inquire how the 10 official community representatives will be chosen, and suggest that it be done through (yet another ) community poll so that the process can be decentralized as much as possible.
Can you give us a detailed budget breakdown? How much is the compensation for the program manager and how much is allocated for each event? Will the ambassadors be compensated? Thanks.
It still seems foolish to agree to pay a former foundation employee without a clearer understanding of what resulted in them being a “former” employee.
Besides the fact that @Peanutbutta is incapable of acting honestly or in good faith, I imagine the dao could find a better team of contributors to pay to promote an ambassador program.
