Moderation

During May toxicity escalated considerably in comparison with other months. Some events related to banned members joining Discord repeteadly with alt accounts and inciting conflict and others related to repetitive mocking and disrespect to community members led to the application of several sanctions from the Mod team. These events put moderation back in the agenda just in time for the bidding and tendering for the new moderation team which had 2 bidders with none of the bids passing. On top of that, a record of spam accounts had to be banned.

Number of time-outs applied: 2
Number of bans applied: 26

Cybersecurity

The #cybersecurity-awareness channel has been actively updating the community about various cyber and social engineering attacks. This month, whilst there were a handful of web3 related cyber attacks, there was no significant hack that was unique enough to be shared as awareness to the community. MetaRyuk shared only 1 tweet concerning X accounts belonging to celebrities were compromised and used to spread phishing links.

Strategic Comms

  • Specific Deliverables
    • 84 Twitter Posts (includes videos, threads)
    • 4 YouTube Videos
    • Finished posting up the C3 Community Content Creators Pilot Program content by all the contributors.

Blockers

Toxicity has increased, and people are no longer engaging in productive discussions. The focus has shifted, and proposal assessments and discussions are no longer conducted effectively.

Next steps

GENERAL: The Facilitation Squad will not be submitting a renewal proposal. However, we’ll continue to assist with onboarding and transferring existing responsibilities related to governance, moderation, community management, and social media if needed.

OPS: Handover responsibilities.

MODERATION: Continue to coordinate the process for moderation handover.

COMMS: Handover responsibilities and social media accounts passwords and accesses.

Hey everyone!

As we’ve mentioned on several occasions, our plan was to submit one final grant renewal request with a reduced budget and fewer working hours. This was aimed at maintaining current operations while reducing the overall costs for the Facilitation Squad. We also intended to present a tender proposal by the end of the year to transition responsibilities smoothly to another community team.

During our past and current grant periods, we’ve dedicated ourselves fully to managing social media, governance operations, and moderation from both professional and human perspectives. Despite our efforts, we have not met everyone’s expectations and have faced public and private attacks (DMs and social media).

After much consideration, we have decided not to continue under the DAO payroll for another term. This decision opens up the opportunity for a new team to take over these roles and bring a fresh perspective to the DAO at this critical juncture for the Decentraland project.

We remain fully committed to this project and community. Even though most of the team will step back from the DAO for a while, we’ll rejoin as regular community members, leveraging our experience to support the project.

Finally, since every proposal or action taken by our team was first consulted with at least 2-3 community members from outside the Core Units and the Committee, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported us over the past few years, especially those who provided honest and constructive feedback in a civilized manner, always aiming for the best for this DAO.

We also want to express our deep gratitude to all Squad and Committee members, it was always a pleasure working with you.

Some considerations and next steps:

  • Social Media Accounts: All passwords and access to social media and related accounts will be transferred to the DAO Committee, as the DAO’s only permanent structure, until someone new assumes these responsibilities.
  • Governance Operations: Daily operations will be partially handed over to the DAO Committee. We will be available to onboard a future Facilitation Squad or Governance Operations team.
  • Moderation: We will be available to onboard a new moderation team.
