[DAO:b666b15] Chain Challenger: Bridging Web2 players to DCL, a gaming discovery platform

No, they didn’t. Allow me to provide the reasons why.

Apeiron boasts 132.2k Twitter followers, while The Beacon, the largest project on TreasureDAO, has 69k followers. Comparatively, the followers and engagement levels of projects on Decentraland are generally lower, with most having only a few thousand followers. By partnering with these prominent names, we can instantly capture the attention of thousands of Web3 gamers from these project communities. These gamers are already familiar with using Metamask and purchasing NFTs from marketplaces, making them the ideal target audience to introduce to projects on Decentraland. This collaboration presents one of the most effective marketing channels, as the traffic from these established Web3 gaming projects aligns closely with the target Web3 user base for Decentraland. It is challenging to attract such a significant number of target customers even through platforms like Twitter and YouTube, as crypto-related content usually dominates the gaming and metaverse content landscape.

So essentially, partnering with these significant projects means redirecting their traffic to DCL projects (subject to support from DCLDAO in the future). We benefit from the traffic generated by these projects without requiring any payment from them at this stage (it also showcases our business development (BD) capabilities in establishing partnerships with key players in the industry, despite our current relatively small size). However, as Chain Challenger grows rapidly, we will eventually start charging them marketing fees. This transition will allow our model to become sustainable, eliminating the need to repeatedly request funds from the DAO.

All good! Satisfied noobie here hahaha.

To all those who have voted ‘No’ on this proposal, I kindly request your feedback and would like to address any concerns you may have. It would be greatly appreciated if you could leave your comments or thoughts here, or connect with me on Twitter or Discord.

This way, our team can better understand everyone’s perspectives and make appropriate adjustments to the proposal accordingly.

Additionally, if possible, I would also like to connect with you, Kyllian. The Chain Challenger platform may differ from the traditional tools and platforms associated with DCL that you are familiar with. However, our team is confident that it will bring long-term and sustained user growth to the DCL community. If feasible, our team would like to schedule a call with you to gain a deeper understanding of your thoughts and perspectives.

  • Your domain name was registered 4 months ago.
  • The website doesn’t even load.
  • The twitter account was created two months ago, you have 9 tweets which are, to be honest, not very interesting (only partnerships announcements), over 1.1k followers, that doesn’t seems genuine.
  • The previous game you did is not worth what you are asking, if that’s what you are proposing as tournament it’s frankly disappointing.
  • You never touched MANA before this proposal.
  • 8.75k USD for a month of community management? @Peanutbutta you may want to look into that.

Also some people who voted yes are IMO into quite shady businesses.

Regarding your concerns:

  1. Your domain name was registered 4 months ago.
  • Are you referring to our website domain? The product has recently launched, and we have been recording data through Cloudflare. Our website receives an average of 200-250 unique visitors per day, primarily from Hong Kong and Taiwan.(Cloudflare data.png - Google Drive).
  1. The Twitter account was created two months ago, and you have 9 tweets which are, to be honest, not very interesting (only partnership announcements). However, you have over 1.1k followers, which doesn’t seem genuine.
  • I don’t consider 1.1k followers a large number. The traffic mainly comes from partnerships with other projects. As the Growth Strategy Lead for a Hong Kong social crypto exchange, I have successfully grown our Twitter followers from a few thousand to 25k+ within three months. It is not as difficult as you may think. If necessary, I can provide supporting links privately.
  1. The previous game you developed is not worth what you are asking for. If that’s what you are proposing for the tournament, it’s frankly disappointing.
  • We are not building a game in Decentraland but a multifunctional gaming discovery and tournament platform. Our tech team is led by the tech lead from 9GAG (the parent company behind Memeland). I can share our roadmap and the features we are currently developing with you personally if you are interested. Please note that we have invested our own funds in bringing Chain Challenger to life, including design costs, frontend and backend development, and infrastructure.
  1. You never touched MANA before this proposal.
  • I don’t believe whether I have touched MANA previously is a relevant factor to consider. Due to my daily work requirements, I started engaging with Decentraland projects, including Soul Magic, six months ago. We have helped promote them in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and mainland China by collaborating with local guilds and KOLs, resulting in significant traffic (with relatively low CPA). Through these experiences, I discovered many interesting and promising projects in Decentraland. I believe that with suitable promotional channels and strategies, these projects can be embraced by a large Chinese-speaking user base. That’s why our team decided to build Chain Challenger - simply because we saw the potential in Decentraland and wanted to promote it. (I also have a track record of successfully promoting numerous significant Web3 gaming projects from Korea and Japan.)
  1. $8.75k USD for a month of community management?
  • The $8.75k covers community management fees and the hosting of online/IRL community events in Hong Kong and Taiwan to promote our project and attract Web2 gamers from these regions. In Hong Kong, just renting a party room for hosting a community event costs at least $1000-1500 USDT per day, not including other miscellaneous expenses. For an early-stage project, investing a significant portion of funds to acquire seed users and build brand awareness is critical. Please understand that we are not a purely Web3 project; our goal is to bring Web2 gamers into Web3, and therefore, on-ground promotion is necessary.
  1. Also, some people who voted yes are, in my opinion, involved in quite shady businesses.
  • To be honest, I am not familiar with the members and structure of the DCL DAO. I am also unaware of the relationships among the large stakeholders with high voting power. However, if you have doubts about our team’s identity, we are more than willing to schedule a call with you. I am open to a video call and can share more about my current role and job duties to address your concerns.

I’d prefer all this information to be shared publicly. We saw with “Decentraland X” how it ends when a CEO tries to convince people personally one by one.

That’s understandable. Please take a look at the following link, which includes my personal Twitter page and Kikitrade - the company I work for as the Growth Strategy Lead. It also provides information on the unreleased features of Chain Challenger, such as the Matching Engine for Web2 multiplayer game gamers, the MPC social login system, and the personal exclusive page for connecting different Web2 games.

Finally, I have included our joint initiative from six months ago with Soul Magic and Dragon City, where we organized the search for the New Year Kiktirade bear activity.

I hope this information helps you better understand me and my team. We have been consistently working on real projects! Additionally, we have found suitable developers to continue the development of our platform, and it’s frustrating to see the proposal getting rejected at the last moment. So please reconsider your voting intention. We genuinely need this grant to continue developing and expanding the functionality and user base of Chain Challenger!

So this grant is a private company investment (accelerator category) rather than creating tools and applications to extend the platform (platform category) then?

I have already addressed this question in my proposal:

  1. Currently, DCL lacks a significant user base from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Our platform will provide free Simplified and Traditional Chinese translations for all DCL projects (with future support for Japanese and Korean), and we will prioritize these projects to ensure that Chinese users on our platform can discover and enter the world of DCL. In other words, we aim to become the largest user onboarding platform for DCL in the Asian region.
  2. The current login method for DCL is highly unfriendly, as users are required to use Web3 wallets for authentication. This process involves creating wallets and handling private keys, which creates significant friction for Web2 users (and is a common issue faced by many Web3 gaming projects). That’s why we have developed an easy-to-use MPC wallet login system directly on the Chain Challenger platform. To put it simply, users can log in to our website through traditional methods such as Google, Apple, or Discord, while an automatic non-custodial wallet is generated in the background. With the help of relevant APIs on MPC, we can experiment with allowing all users to enter any map in DCL with a single click on Chain Challenger, regardless of their previous interaction with DCL. Users won’t need to create or log in to any Metamask wallet during the process (it may sound crazy, but it is achievable!).
  3. Through the Tournament matching system and MPC wallet integration, we can seamlessly promote any multiplayer or competitive games on Decentraland to Web2 players without them needing to learn how to create wallets. The entire experience will feel natural and smooth.

Furthermore, we have consulted some DCL project teams earlier, and they recommended that we apply for a platform grant. Although the platform we are building is different from familiar platform products, Chain Challenger will ultimately become the largest promotion platform (Web2+Web3) for DCL in Asia. Therefore, I believe applying for a platform grant is a reasonable choice.

My team and I have extensively tested our domain, chainchallenger.xyz, and have confirmed that it is working normally (You may try clearing your cache and refreshing the website)
Btw, the website can also be found by searching ‘Chain Challenger’ on Google…

Additionally, I would like to emphasize the reasons why I am requesting a video call. Face-to-face communication can be more effective in establishing trust among individuals, and it is also easier to explain complex products like Chain Challenger. I am more than willing to record the entire meeting and share it with other members of DCL DAO for their review.

Hey sir, as the voting is ending soon. I would like to know if there is any additional concerns on your end and are you satisfied with the above feedback from us?
Regarding future proposal submissions, I would like to seek your advice on the suitable category. Do you think we should still apply for the platform grant as suggested by others and should we just try to apply for the accelerator category grant?
