Description

First off, I would like to say that Decentraland has been an amazing experience, but I would like to point out the lack of indigenous peoples on this platform. As you all know, the indigenous community has been marginalized IRL, and I for one, as I am sure many of you, do NOT want to see that continue in the new world we are creating in the Metaverse. To help right this injustice, I am starting a campaign to reach out to these indigenous communities and help them join Decentraland.

To facilitate this outreach, we must create a safe space where the indigenous community members feel at home and provide the appropriate attire (wearables) for them. I am requesting funding in MANA to fund this noble endeavor. As you know, the natives like to run free and require a lot of land to do so, so we need a large space, probably at least 2x2. (We will need more later!) Additionally, we will require enough MANA to mint at least 5 different wearables to represent the tribal culture and traditions. We are going to start small, but hopefully grow quickly once the natives arrive. Initially, we will prepare for 100 natives to join our community, and I will be responsible for minting names for each tribal member and helping to acclimate them to out global community.

Below is the small budget that we require to start our project.

Funding Allocation

2 x 2 Estate = 20,000 MANA
5 Wearables = $500 USD / $0.3 USD per MANA = 1666.67 MANA
100 Names = 100 x 100 MANA = 10000 MANA
Management for Tribal Affairs = 2000 MANA per month x 3 months = 6000 MANA

For the small sum of 37666.67, we can help to engage the indigenous community and provide them a warm welcome in Decentraland!

Thank you all and many blessings! Hameke-Burem!

No.

Race based actions and proposals have no place in the open decentralized metaverse - people should be treated as equals, and be treated equally whether they are anon or not - we should not propagate unfair treatment nor a class-based proposal system based on peoples genetics.

Do not bring the problems of the centralized world into our open and free spaces. Do not bring race based initiatives into a space that does not require it. I can see no worse use of grant funds.

First of all, this sounds more like a VP grab. Land, 100 names. If I am mistaken i sincerely apologize. I don’t disagree with your statements but. DAO does not pay for peoples land. We have land you can request to use, whether free or rented, all depends on the situation. You’re request is for 11,900 then you give a number 3 ties that in your budget. Not gonna happen but nice try. Thank you.

FIrst… no one said anything about race. This is about helping indigenous people all over the world regardless of their skin color.

Second… I priced the final 37666.67 in MANA not USD. The USD price is much less… around $11500.

Apologies for any hurt feelings or misunderstandings. Peace and blessings be upon you regardless of your vote.

Thank you for your consideration.

People need to start thinking without boarders in this space as there isnt any and no one knows you except for your thoughts here. i know the point and what you are going for but people need to get out of this America-centric way of thinking.

you say its for world wide indigenous people. That basically means its for everyone except people who have migrated for whatever reason. you have a glass half full moment here. you can say the same thing through these two statements;

  1. The glass is half full
  2. the glass is half empty

the same is also true with this;

  1. This proposal is for indigenous people world wide
  2. This proposal is not for immigrants/migrants

I will be voting No

It seems that this proposal is getting a lot of “No” votes…

I can only assume that is because those voting “No” do not understand the benefits this will provide to both the DCL and Indigenous communities. Let me clarify some things…

  1. The onboarding of the natives will only be the first part of the building of our Indigenous community. Phase 2 will offer many new and exciting opportunities for all residents of Decentraland.

  2. We will immediately open a Center for World Peace on the tribal lands. Here community members can sit down, smokem the peace pipe, and overcome their differences in a civil manner. There has been a lot of talk lately about banning people and infighting, and I know this will go a long way towards mending those hurt feelings.

  3. The tribal council will immediately meet and convene with the Great Spirits to spiritually bless Decentraland. This blessing will soar in the sky on the wings of an eagle to get more users to join our cause.

If you are curious, the tribal elders have decided that once we get funding for Phase 2, we will break ground upon several casinos. These casinos will help to empower the Indigenous people and provide a bigger draw to DCL.

Can you clarify your credentials on bringing in indegenous folk? It sounds like you’re just assuming if you do these things listed that people will see them and come. Is there a specific crowd of people you know and are trying to onboard that feel uncomfortable joining DCL as it is? If that’s the case, then we should focus on improving areas that already exist that are making people feel unwelcome. Where are these 100 people coming from? This is all beside the fact that I don’t think we should be focusing any projects/proposals to specific groups of people based on their heritage unless maybe its to have an event or something that brings awareness/educational value to all DCL citizens.

Also, I’m not really in favor of grants to buy land or names as I feel like acquiring the land is an important step in showing a seriousness in investing in DCL. Secure the land first, then maybe ask for development funds if that’s the issue. The DAO buying land for people just doesn’t seem like a great idea to me.

Thank you for your thoughtful comments Mimsy.

My credentials are that I have been asked by Great Bear to put this proposal forward to the Decentraland community as a last ditch effort to save a worthy people. I come from an area where many indigenous people once called home, but have now been driven out. There is not much left of their cultural in the real world, so I decided it would be good to preserve their way of life in the digital world. The DCL Reservation will promote worldwide awareness and education on the way of life and culture of the Indigenous peoples.

The natives are concerned that unless they are provided with the necessary tools and land that they will be forced out of the digital world just like they were in the real world. Because they have been disenfranchised in the real world, the Indigenous community feels that this land is their right. Seeing that the DAO is buying up land and it is going unused, giving some land to this noble cause seems like a good use of it.

2 x 2 Estate = 20,000 MANA
5 Wearables = $500 USD / $0.3 USD per MANA = 1666.67 MANA
100 Names = 100 x 100 MANA = 10000 MANA
Management for Tribal Affairs = 2000 MANA per month x 3 months = 6000 MANA

Hello,
as a Native American who apparently “like to run free and require a lot of land to do so”

what groups are you tryin to reach? this sounds and feels like a blanket statement to get funding.

no mention of a specific tribe leadership in touch with, no mention of even a region, and there are Native Inuits, Native Aboriginal, Native everything.

you’re creating problems that arent even a fucking thing to get some money it feels.

unless you plan on reaching out to every tribe,

and create something along the lines of -

making a plan of action to create small working groups to better small communities in reservations and creating a collective of individuals that are all about furthering the human race with empathy and knowledge

keep my people out of your pockets

While this proposal seems well-intentioned on its face, it kind of begs the question of why indigenous people aren’t well represented. What if the answer is that, like most people, they’re just not that interested in the metaverse right now?

The flow of new people coming to Decentraland has been dwindling for some time it seems. A quick search tells me that indigenous people make up 5-6% of the global population. Realistically, some portion of that is going to include remote cultures that lack the infrastructure and desire to live a virtual life.

Aside from that, I’m opposed to diversity quotas in general. Where others see a genuinely altruistic attempt to lift up historically marginalized populations, I see the soft bigotry of low expectations.
