[DAO:6984a21] Decentraland DAO Proposal: Introducing Proposal Submission Fees

by 0xed0e0cb94f60f72ec94bef848f5df4cbd365af1d (InJesterr)

Proposal Summary

We propose the introduction of a submission fee for certain categories of proposals within the Decentraland DAO. This fee, set at $25 worth of MANA, will be directed to the DAO Treasury. The implementation of this fee will address key issues related to proposal submissions, enhance the value and seriousness of submitted ideas, and contribute to the DAO’s financial health.

  • Enhancing Proposal Quality: By introducing a submission fee, we aim to filter out less serious or low-quality proposals. The cost will encourage community members to submit well-thought-out and valuable proposals, as they will be investing financially in their ideas.

  • Supporting the DAO Treasury: The fees collected will go directly to the DAO Treasury, providing additional funds for various DAO initiatives and projects, thereby strengthening the overall ecosystem.

  • Reducing Trolls and Overload: Implementing a fee will help reduce the number of spam or frivolous proposals, making the review process more efficient and focused on genuinely impactful ideas.

Fee Structure and Categories
We propose the following structure for the submission fees:

Free Categories:

Name Ban: As name bans are typically related to preventing abuse or protecting the community, this category will remain free to ensure accessibility and responsiveness.

Hiring: To facilitate the growth and development of the DAO, hiring proposals will be free, encouraging the recruitment of talent without financial barriers.

Removing Point of Interest: Removing a point of interest should be free.

Paid Categories ($25 worth of MANA):

  • Catalyst Node
  • Point of Interest
  • Linked Wearable Registry
  • Grant Request
  • Pitch
  • Special Case - Poll:

Initial Poll Submission: Free. Polls & Drafts allow the community to gauge interest and gather initial feedback without financial constraints.

Polls and Final Poll Stages: Once a poll passes the initial stage and reaches the Final stage, a $25 fee will be required to proceed. This fee ensures that only serious and well-supported proposals advance through the final stages.

Expected Outcomes

  • Improved Proposal Quality: With a financial stake involved, proposers are likely to submit more thoughtful and impactful ideas.
  • Increased Treasury Funds: The DAO Treasury will benefit from an additional revenue stream, supporting more projects and initiatives.
  • Efficient Proposal Management: The review process will become more efficient, focusing on high-quality proposals and reducing the administrative burden.

(Treasury Allocation: All collected fees will be directly transferred to the DAO Treasury.)

Im not sure if the creators can afford This kind of money for a grant request.

What if we lowered the price?
lets say find a range between 5-20 dollars + I do also believe that when you ask for a grant you should be willing to pay for your project.

I’d agree if the paid categories would only include:

  • Linked Wearable Registry
  • Grant Request

Creators are here to get money, not to spend money.

Makes also sense we could adjust it

Sure, let’s gatekeep even more. Why not raise the fee to $100 or something already? /s

At this point the DAO can use some extra sources of revenue. If a team/user is serious about their project and commitment to Decentraland, a $25-$50 investment into a grant proposal or linked wearable fee can evidence that. I wouldn’t call it gatekeeping.

POIs - As part of the POI planning, maybe there is a set fee structure for commercial versus community? Just thinking out loud.

Plus, this reduces the # of proposals and reduces voter fatigue for meme proposals. Want to waste everyone’s time? Pay $25 or whatever determined fee.

I think charging people to participate in governance is an awful idea

NO, the DAO doesn’t need to “make money” from the small creators. It needs to start spending it on the large thinkers who have a fucking clue what it will take to get DCL going again.

If we are bothered by the DAO prop wasters when address that but DONT keep inhibiting the people who keep trying and creating by “charging them”.

Sorry for the “F” word if that bothered anyone

I understand but don’t agree, I do believe creators pay for wearables & names too in dcl just to create, to get a grant a small tiny investment in my opinion is the least you can do.

We think alike cuz this was the reason why I proposed this idea but I think we should rework it and gather the ideas of the community come to a common ground for the draft, ( if it comes to pass  )

It makes sense to me, voting should be considered participating which remains free.

changing terms or rules is governing.

If you have suggestions for a better a proposal i’d like to hear it :pray:t2:
