[DAO:46eb7e7] Vroomway Continuation & Expansion

That was personally speaking. I installed the dance floor and crafted the anti-cheat mechanism. I also coded all of the wearable machines in The Recharge. These are examples of extra tasks that get consumed instead of paying someone $800 every time we need a snippet installed.

This is a super unbased remark btw.

A non-profit foundation paying a developer to code a scene vs. an active co-founder’s stipend.
Those don’t even equate on any level.

And if we’re talking what the Foundation pays… Do you charge $250 for a scene @dogman? Or do you usually charge around $800 on average for a scene. These are not fair comparisons at all, js

And you do great work. I think comparing apples to oranges is not proving the right points here.

Agreed. I really love the work you guys to do. I deleted my previous comments bc I realize Price is totally subjective and I cannot tell anyone else to what to value their work at. I am still undecided on this grant bc I def recognize the immense value you nikki and the whole team bring to DCL. I will wait until I see a budget and then probably ask some more questions. Wishing yall luck tho

Thank you @NikkiFuego and @DOCTORdripp for your replies and information. The main question I am left with is how much of this grant funding is specifically for the migration to SDK7, and what will be used for future content/events. In the original wording of the proposal, it sounds as if the main purpose of the grant is for migration to SDK7 but then in follow-up explanations the line becomes muddled in my opinion. I think it would be helpful for us to all know how much of this funding is requested due to the needed migration (which, I agree with @jar0d that it would be kind of silly for the DAO to invest funds into a game and not help them keep up with sdk changes if needed to continue existing in DCL), and how much is for things unrelated to the migration of the current project to SDK7.

To supplement the originally posted general breakdown of the budget (pasted above), here is a breakdown of SDK7-related costs:

Month 1 & 2: Lead Developer Costs ($7,000)

  • SDK 7 Front-end & back-end of Rummaging (gathering mechanic)
  • Back-end Inventory/Leveling (front-end complete)
  • SDK7 Front-end & back-end of Vehicle System
  • SDK7 2D UI (complete rewrite)
  • SDK7 Front-end & back-end Claim Machines
  • General maintenance
  • Total Hours = 80~

Month 1 & 2: Project Manager/Developer ($6,000)

  • 3D Environment Main Scenes conversion x3 (Main Entrance, Scrapyard, Recharge)
  • 3D Environment Game Modes x17
  • NPC conversion x7
  • Material Shop conversion
  • Scene swap system conversion
  • FUEL purchase conversion
  • Competitive season system conversion
  • 3D Art: New Vehicle x2 New Skin x2 (competitive season)
  • 2D Art: Atlas boards conversion
  • Total hours = 150~ (does not include day to day ops, partnerships, social media, content creation, and bug management)

SDK 7 Remaining Costs ($13,000)

  • Leaderboards, Race Rewards, Daily reFUEL, Recharge FUEL System
  • Solo-Sprint game mode conversion
  • Back-end conversion for Database, Login, Authentication
  • Infinity Engine conversion
  • Power Up conversion
  • Vehicle Mods conversion
  • Total Hours = 140~

In overview, these costs not only convert code syntax, but include testing and bug mitigation (except where noted). It also includes open-sourcing of these SDK7 code libraries. Our lead dev, CryptoTrader includes comprehensive documentation inside the code frameworks to help anyone understand how to use the code and customize it for themselves. Each new feature that we develop will also be open-sourced as agreed upon by all coders who are contributing. This will provide a heavy lift assistance to anyone else that is trying to convert to SDK 7 with plug-and-play samples that can also be used to launch their own P2E game.

New things that we are creating and open-sourcing the remaining months are:

  • New Game Mode: Balloon Heist
  • New Game Mode: Bumper Cars
  • Battle Pass
  • Professions: Gathering & Mileage
  • Optional AI Opponents in Game Modes
  • 20 Additional Vehicles (9 craftable skins/vehicles, 6 Competitive Season helmets/skins/vehicles, and 5 partnership skins/vehicles)
  • New Missions: Daily, Weekly, Events Plus many more collaborations and events!
  • 24 Social Friday events (in addition to the ones we are doing now outside of grant)
  • 5 more partnerships

I voted yes, I think vroomway is a game with incredible potential and has a team that works daily to grow the project. It is currently one of the games I participate in the most and I would like to see what they are capable of doing if the proposal is approved

This project is no longer sustainable, therefore founders should pull the plug on it. I am sure there are other opportunities out there where this team can experiment and waste someone else’s money.

You can flag this message all you want, still don’t change the facts…

Vroomway is the epitome of a decentraland game. Every aspect of the game was designed to integrate perfectly with the platform features and limitations and utilizes almost all advanced features of the platform.

The value in having these modules open sourced for sdk7 greatly exceeds the required budget. I’ve been through the infinity engine code and re-doing it will be no easy task. I can also vouch that the complexity of the vroomway ui and it having to be almost completely re-written for the sdk7 components will require much effort.

If this does not pass, maybe there is opportunity to have the code module work funded under the platform category with a re-visited budget for marketing and community aspects under in-world budget.

We can not afford to lose our most dedicated and motivated projects or we will end up with no content within a year.

Hello All,

I do not regularly participate in this sector of the Decentraland platform, grant proposal voting, for a number of different reasons. However, I do find it important that I speak on this proposal. Aside from working very closely with the Vroomway team from the very start of their project, I am also an original player that was onboarded to DCL via Vroomway & its founders. Here I have now found this incredible platform to not only build my own skills, but help add value to DCL and for its active community members, projects, collaborations, and future dealings.

Vroomway has proven player onboarding & retention through countless examples, Vroomway has helped fund & build interoperability between themselves & others games in DCL, Vroomway has provided avenues of work for many DCL community members that are currently or have previously been making a living here in DCL.

I do not have a huge understanding of SDK or the process of migration from 6 to 7, so I will not speak on this portion of the grant.

It is a shame to see such a valuable project, team & ultimately an entire platform lose out on the future opportunities, possibilities and capabilities of Vroomway.

None of these people have real life business experience & this is why this proposal along with other similar experiences are always a FAIL.

DAO is not a charity to keep funding your screw ups. This goes for everyone

It’s a yes for me. Vroomway is always evolving, always doing more and they continue to grow. Backed by solid hard workers who support the community. They put in the hours, they produce the wearables, the vehicles and so on. They are always improving gameplay. These kinds of projects need the funds to move forward. Yes they have had grants before but look at what the team has created. Let’s give them a shot to keep building and become even greater.
