Introducing Decentraland to Industry Professionals at a Singapore University

This morning (Singapore time), I had the opportunity to speak about Decentraland at a local university in Singapore, representing as a Decentraland Ambassador. The session was conducted with a small group of under 20 participants, most of whom were working professionals from diverse sectors such as finance, fintech, F&B and others I didn’t manage to ask. Notably, one attendee was a regulator from a government agency.

The presentation was initially scheduled for one hour but extended by an additional 30 minutes due to the participants’ curiosity and engaging questions. One of the highlights was discussing the differences between land in Genesis City and WORLDS, including the motivation behind the creation of the latter. I also shared various use cases and case studies that demonstrated how Decentraland has been adopted and leveraged across industries.

A particularly challenging question raised was about brand misuse, specifically, what happens if someone uses a well-known logo (e.g., McDonald’s) within Decentraland without permission, and how such cases are handled. For many attendees, this was their first exposure to Decentraland, and they expressed strong interest in exploring the platform further.

A recently published article from the Decentraland Foundation showing that most users access Decentraland via Web2 login was especially helpful, as some participants did not have a Web3 wallet and found this reassuring.

Overall, the session was well-received. The facilitator even suggested having me back for future opportunities. As a small gesture, I handed out Decentraland stickers I brought back from Lisbon.

Special thanks to @rizk, @toxicwaifu, @Canessa and @KimboNFT for their support, feedback, and suggestions that helped enhance the presentation deck. Here’s a copy of the deck for the community’s reference.

P.S. The Decentraland t-shirt I wore was ordered from eBay—everything was self-sponsored.
