Eibriel's proposal for Creating Wearables

I find it disconcerting that attempts are made to regulate the creation of assets.
I also find it disconcerting that, while wearables are assumed to be a scarce element worthy of regulation, other elements such as the 3D geometry of a scene and its coding can be freely copied and distributed as if they sprang from a Star Trek replicator.

Agreed,
Cosmetic appearance of NFTs are arguably their weakest attribute. To me its a lot like insisting on selling a picture of a car for the same price of a car because it “looks like a car” and “I only printed like 10 of these pictures off”.

The Cosmetic appearance is something anyone can copy with minimal effort. Assuming the guy at the car dealership has a printer just like you do.

And when it comes to the metaverse there are going to be hundreds or thousands of these “car dealerships” and “printers”.

Anyone who has played an MMO and is familiar with the “Transmog”, “Glam”, or “Outfit” mechanisms understands that you can look as cool as you want but its the gears stats (Metadata) that all of your friends care about when you show up to RAID. But let me try to put this a different way.

Lets say that Decentraland Games / Casino created a wearable that allowed VIPs / Seasonal contest winners to fly on DCL games / casino owned LAND. So there would be a “VIP lounge” of sorts that you could only access via that flight. To serve as an incentive to participate in seasonal events and whatnot.

That wearable provides “digital enablement” with the metadata. Its a feature, its a reward, its a function, its a service. That sort of thing vastly outweighs the cosmetic appearance of a wearable.

I want people to be able to make, mint support and sell their own wearables so they can add functions and rewards into their business. And stopping that from happening because some feel the need to protect the market to keep cosmetic experiences scarce seems a little short sighted to me. Also implementing lengthy voting process that would slow down the deployment of a wearable like that by months would also discourage business.

Not every wearable has to be an “official DCL wearable”. But I think there need to be alternitives for those who still want to use them. Which is something I outlined in my proposal. Its really just a long way of saying ERC115 tokens could be used as a distinciton from regualr “DCL offical wearable”.

I’ve already typed a lot though, so I’ll just drop the link in the hypertext here.
Its long, but its TL:DR is that some features, like emission (glowing) or those skeleton outfits that change the shape of your avatar could be features reserved for only DCL offical wearables. So they always have an “edge”. But the other stuff is free for people to use. bla bla
