Should the following Tier 3: up to $5,000 USD in MANA, 3 months vesting (1 month cliff) grant in the Content Creator category be approved?

Abstract

We have a Twitter page where we post daily videos about upcoming events in Decentraland. The main purpose of this page is to make easier for the everyday user to know more about the current events of the day, with informative short videos about the events details and artist’s background (if any performing). Think of it as the live events list, but with subtitled videos explaining them.

We have been providing daily videos since april and we believe it’s time to expand and add translated videos in brazilian portuguese to embrace the latino community as well.

Description

One thing we noticed is that somedays it can get hard to keep track of events! Our goal is to make the event page more digestable for the average user, by visually explaining the activities of the day. We have been providing daily videos since april.

We have listened to the community feedback and we made a few quality updates on our editing. No more AI voices, changed to a high quality audio, implemented video covers, switched to a new intro, updated logo+name and much more!

Specification

Producing daily videos requires time, organization and dedication, and creating them is crucial for the promotion of new events, musicians, artists, and DJs.

The videos are also very important to provide visual information to new and current users about daily upcoming events.

Funds breakdown: Marketing: $1,500 (equally divided over 3 months). Voice Over Actress:$1,500. Video production, editing etc: $2,000.

Personnel

My name is Vapo and I create videos by myself. I’ve been working fulltime in metaverse-related content since december 2021, contributing with videos and advertisement in different projects. (https://twitter.com/0xVapo)

Our goal is to become a steady source of video news about Decentraland events. Our vision includes obtaining a long-term commitment in the future with the community to continue creating relevant content everyday to bring new users and keep current players updated as much as possible!

Roadmap and milestones

Create DAILY event videos for the Decentraland community for the upcoming 3 months.

Create at least 10x monthly videos aimed to bring more visibility to newly approved DAO-granted projects (as suggested by the DAO grant committee).

Continue the youtube page as suggested by the community.

Translate daily videos to brazilian portuguese with a female voice actress.

Constantly scale up the content production and content quality of the page.

I look forward to seeing content in other languages as a person of English speaking I want to see more people who are from different locations come and have a liaison to interact with. Someone to help onboard them in thier native tongue. For the love of god please just speak Portuguese in the videos lol. The idea is to have different people translating multiple languages, onboarding/embracing as many cultures as possible in the future. I know Atrovenado and his project, as well as Decentralovers (another great Brazilian group). Collabing with them is something definitely on our radar!

Hey @Vaporizador, you know I’m a fan of the Decentraland Highlights, now Decentraland NOW content. And I appreciate the rebrand you just went through as well. You have taken the community feedback and addressed it each time. However, I have changed my vote, because I’m realizing this is potentially your third proposal, over the last 6 months.

I personally would like to see more of a long term plan for the content, see what paid media with it looks like, transparency around the stats (we’re always hungry for more stats heh), and then how you could make this sustainable through future sponsorships, and partner collabs. Again I see the value in the content, it’s how to make it sustainable without a grant every 3 months, since the proof of the content is there!

I understand your concern but reapplying for a grant every 3 months is not my intention. I agree with you, a long term thing would be way better. I tried to apply for a grant covering an entire year and the community told me it wasn’t time yet. Thanks for the feedback!

Hi Vapo! Last time you submitted your grant I asked questions and you didn’t answer them. I’ll base my vote on this, I guess. Can you let us know:

How many proposals have you successfully passed in the past?

How much were they for?

What did you use these funds for?

1º and 2º: I successfully passed two (x2) proposals of 3k each. The third and most recent one was aiming to cover a longer period - an entire year (as suggested by some members of the community) and was rejected.

I’m afraid I just can’t see the correlation between already receiving $6,000 and what you have done with that, because you didn’t answer my question… “What did you use these funds for?” You say it covered an entire year, but to do what? Did you use it for advertising? Video editing software? Voiceovers? I’m sorry, I just feel like with the last proposal and this one, I ask questions but you don’t answer them. Best of luck to you!

You’re confounding things. I didn’t received any funding covering an entire year. I said I TRIED (unsuccessfully) to apply for a grant that long, since it was suggested by the community.

So far the funds were used for (one more time, even more detailed):

Softwares licensing (including after effects + plugins, vegas and photoshop)
Hardware upgrades (rendering anything at after effects with 32gb ram still takes something around ~20min, previously it was way worse)

This is aiming to have tools to deliver the best video quality possible with consistency, wich was a blocker previously. Made more sense to refine the product before advertsing it. There were many complaints about audio/video quality.

It’s the third time you said I didn’t replied to your answers, wich is incorrect.

I see my error this time, and I apologize. I read your statement wrong that you were using the first two grants to secure a years worth of funding. I also license Adobe After Effects, Envato Elements, and a variety of other video editing tools.

I don’t mean to argue, but when I asked you in my first post in this proposal you did not answer my questions, only when I asked again did you give me a more clear breakdown of what you spent the funds on. Your description of what you spent the funds on is also different, now you are adding that you spent it on Plug-ins and After Effects, this was the more detailed information I was looking for in my questions of your prior grant. I think it’s not very constructive to tell me that you didn’t reply to my answers, when a simple scan of our dialogue clearly shows otherwise.

I don’t mean to be confrontational, I’m just looking for clarification. I wish you the best of luck on your grant.

Dear Community

The Grant Support Squad was created to support the grantees in achieving their goals and to take care of the DAO treasury. In this opportunity, I want to draw your attention to the following points,

  • The community have voted this grant to:
    • Create DAILY event videos for the Decentraland community for the upcoming 3 months (September, October, and November)
    • Create at least 10x monthly videos aimed to bring more visibility to newly approved DAO-granted projects (as suggested by the DAO grant committee).
    • Continue the youtube page as suggested by the community.
    • Translate daily videos to brazilian Portuguese with a female voice actress.
    • Constantly scale up the content production and content quality of the page.
  • According to the Grantee´s social media accounts, the project is considerably delayed because there are not the number of videos promised.

We are aware that the Grantee had some issues. First, was been “unable to log in properly in dcl for weeks”, and they reported this on foundation GitHub. Second, the grantee explained that “I crash constantly and for no reasons whatsoever (video and crash logs included).”

So, With these inputs, We recommend that the DAO Committee (@yemel @HPrivakos ) should pause the vesting contract until the grantee could resolve the issues and show significate progress on the roadmap.

I know you might have some pleasure rooting for others to fail and act passive-aggressive on a daily basis, but I hate to break it to you that this is a small pause and it will get resumed sooner than you imagine.
