Description

Here are our main product updates from the past 6 months:
Real Estate Trends Heatmap:
This feature introduces two new layers on Genesis City map.
Lands for Sale Heatmap and Lands for Rent Heatmap.
Lands for Sale Heatmap: Each parcel is color-coded based on its sale price, making it easy to visualize high and low price areas at a glance. Lands for Rent Heatmap: Similar to the sale layer, but showing rental prices across the map with a color gradient. Both heatmap layers include a legend on the left with the pricing scale and corresponding colors. When a heatmap is active the background map is now grayscale to allow the color-coded land prices to stand out more vividly.
To access the new heatmap layers:

Games Layer:
We’ve added a new Games Layer to Genesis City, making it easy to locate and access all the games available in Decentraland. The Games Layer shows the position of every game on the Genesis City map. Left click on a game’s location and you’ll jump straight into it.
To view the Games Layer:
Games Layer > Genesis City Map

Art Layer:
Allowing you to easily discover and explore all the art venues and galleries within Decentraland. With the Art Layer toggle on, you can see the precise locations of every art spot on the Genesis City map. Simply navigate to an art venue’s location, and you’ll have the option to jump right in.

Finally, we improved our project’s maintenance processes and stability. We paid off some technical debt and fixed bugs.
We remain committed to engaging with our community and continue to receive valuable feedback from our users, including requests for new features and improvements.

Roadmap and milestones

We will update the map weekly for 6 months.
If the proposal is approved, our main focus for the next period will be to generate historical views of Genesis City. Soon, you will be able to select past dates and view the state of Genesis City as it was on those days. This feature will allow you to explore the evolution of Genesis City over time, providing valuable insights and a fascinating look at its development.

Hey there, love the project. Can you explain why there is a difference between the website version and the in-game version of Genesis City Map? It would be awesome to have these features you’re showing with the in-game version. Is that something on the Foundation side or?

As I’m sure you’ve seen, there has been a ton of discussion around POI’s recently in the DAO. I believe this is the perfect project to provide a solution to that. Your product already have a Games and POI tag filter is great, but I think including the rest of the tags that are already discoverable via the scene.json files would help with the POI conversations being had.

Although I do think history is important, I think it would be worth it to include the rest of these tags in the scope of the project if we can get it integrated with the in-game map.

Hi Nikki,

During the previous grant period, the Foundation incorporated the satellite view into the Decentraland web client. To generate that view, they use images from our repository (GitHub - genesis-city/genesis.city: Decentraland map) and process them accordingly to display them in the most performant way possible in the web client. At genesis.city we update the images weekly. I’m not aware of the update frequency they use for refreshing the satellite view in the web client. This difference in update frequency may cause the satellite view provided in the web client to not reflect the latest version available for a few days.

The rest of the tags will be added to the project scope. The idea is to keep the interface clean and usable, even on mobile. We will look for the best way to add more tags without compromising the user experience.

Thanks for your feedback!

Is it possible to integrate the tags and other features you have with your site into the in-game satellite view? Currently there is not tag filter in the in-game map view.

Genesis City Map is a great tool and I would like to see it continue… but I don’t believe the DAO should keep paying the 6mo subscription without a clear roadmap to integrate these features long-term. It is not a good decision to pay again and again for features without any comments or coordination with the team that is tasked with building and marketing our main access point. The DAO, foundation and community as a whole would greatly benefit from having more input and/or advice from 1. the people who hold all the VP in Decentraland, 2. the technical team that is building the platform. I believe most voters in this body have the platform’s best interest at heart and want to see it succeed, however, we do not have the technical/business/financial expertise that it takes to make 100K decisions, or even ask the right questions. This is evident by the immense budget shortfalls we’ve had over the last two years. Without the input of the large VP holders and the technical team, I’m afraid the DAO will continue to vote blindly for good projects without good implementation and/or fall victim to those who only vote to serve themselves.

Genesis city map, 6-month renewal

This proposal is now in status: PASSED.

Voting Results:

  • Yes 98% 3,609,438 VP (90 votes)
  • No 1% 51,641 VP (5 votes)
  • Abstain 1% 3 VP (2 votes)

We have been paying for about 2 years. Although the project is super useful and has made great improvements, there’s no roadmap for the future. What happens if/when this doen’t get renewed? Is the project open source? What is the opinion/plan of foundation to implement this feature into the new client? How much more will that cost?
