[DAO:c3b8d61] Call for a Decentraland Incentive system

and that will take years, but before that we still need user growth.

For the record, the most attractive timing of DCL was 2020,2021, back then we got a far worse and simple product, yet, that was the time we have the largest users base, and a lot of the players, creators voters were onboarded at that time as well. And now, we got a better product, richer featrues, but people just kept leaving, i think there are some lessons to learn.

The product leading mindset is very useful in the begining of the a project, but as it starts to scale, we need a comprehensive methods to grow the project, rather than just relying on the product itself. (Not to mention we are not actually very good at developing the product)

Call for a Decentraland Incentive system.

This proposal has been PASSED by a DAO Committee Member (0xfb1afa4dc069ffb47b19dbee196045d508fcd5a2)

I agree with specific incentives designed to channel players thru quests, building, or specific actions that benefit the ecosystemā€¦ it is possibleā€¦ Nifty Island has an excellent rewards system that specifically targets certain actions that are nearly impossible to bot. @Djtraxnft (one of our best creators) is reaping those rewards in a genuine way. Arbitrum DAO is another example of token incentivesā€¦ we are talking about .5 - 10 tokens for completing actions that no bot could complete, and benefit the entire community. This is WAY cheaper than what we have previously agreed to pay for marketing budgets put together by people who had no proven experience increasing traffic.

These incentives increase movement of the token, show appreciation for the work users and contributors do, and bring more people to the brand.

Not everything can be exploited if engineered correctly and we cannot expect high value people to contribute from the kindness of their heart.

I donā€™t believe paying players just to be present or play is a good ideaā€¦ I agree with @HPrivakos that it would incentivize botting and players would leave as soon as rewards are done. Incentives should be clearly thought out, engineered and reviewed often.

Decentraland lacks a few elements that other thriving communities have successfully put in place, but the most important element is FUN.
Until we fix that, there is little need for user incentives at this moment.

I agree with @RobL that salaries are detrimental and that we should instead focus on a reward system that attracts high value thinkers and doers who care about the ecosystem instead of salaried people who were never really part of the community and dissappeared as soon as their paycheck stopped.

This is a great conversation to have. Iā€™d be happy to see it continue.

Years we have for free!
Incentives we must earn!
Iā€™m down for earning NFTs to create a runescape like experience for users.

We need more builders reallyā€¦

years not for free if you consider that foundation rely on the vesting mana as much as the DAO receive. And DAO will keep spending money on platform and others ā€¦

Let us bring something like @CheddarQueso said, a fair incentive system like Nifty island , and see how it looks

I donā€™t believe paying players just to be present or play is a good ideaā€¦ I agree with @HPrivakos that it would incentivize botting and players would leave as soon as rewards are done. Incentives should be clearly thought out, engineered and reviewed often.

ejem, why you say the opposite you vote  ā€¦

Hey Pabloā€¦ My apologies, I am happy to address your comment but I am not sure what you mean. I am also not sure how the proposal you posted is related to this thread.

I am arriving at the table for all of this a bit late, but hopefully I can still get my 42 cents in.

As per my post on the DAPPCRAFT HQ bid thread, I feel this Proposal is making the very dangerous mistake of mixing together trying to incentivize Players and trying to incentivize Voters.

First, I want to give props to the fact that the MetaGamiMall has indeed been holding the record of the most populated scene for some time.
The layout of the scene itself is quite nice, and the whole premise of having wearables on display and portals to other scenes is rather visionary.

It should be indeed a good idea to try to put in place a system for incentivizing Players. I do believe MANA Coupons could be tied into this somehow, as it would also be a way of rewarding / incentivizing Creators.

Howeverā€¦

This paragraph is woefully incomplete ! It starts with a question, lists all of the types of users DCL will ever have (making the statement ā€œcurrent situation of DCLā€ a tautology), and then ends it just like that, implicitly assuming there are other types of users and thus forging a validity for whatever argument this is meant to advance.

The fact of the matter is that you purely and simply cannot put Voters and Players in the same basket.
Voters are people who have a stake in DCL, and as of such will be interested in weighing in on Governance matters of the DAO, to make sure the value of MANA and LAND goes up. A significant number are non-gamers who wonā€™t even care about ā€œvirtual pointsā€.
Players are people who donā€™t give a catā€™s-ass-trophy about any kind of political matter, and who are only in DCL to have fun.
You just simply cannot try to incentivize the two in the same way !

Creators are a bit of an exception, as they are often both part of the Player and the Voter crowds.
But this does not mean you can glob it all as one big mass in your mindā€¦

you expose a problem:

incentivize botting and players would leave as soon as rewards are done. Incentives should be clearly thought out, engineered, and reviewed often.

A solution was offered to push to make it possible in a better way but voted NO.

This doesnā€™t sound like a problem. It is expected that flawed solutions will be presented, and it is normal that those should be voted down.
When this happens (if this is what happens, of course), the response should be to go out and seek a better solution.

Yes that is sensible man, please check the latest prosal that mentioned the issue that you proposed

Hey Pablo, I do not see how the proposal you are indicating relates to the topic of creating an incentive system. My reasoning for voting ā€œnoā€ regarding gamified captcha services is that Captcha works as it is now, and I donā€™t see a need or benefit in gamifying it.

My apologies cheddar, first, I think itā€™s wrong complaining about what people votes, sorry for that.
About the captcha, what I proposed are playable game components that can be fun and playable with similar security to captchas, obviously itā€™s not a captcha because we already have, are game components to secure people games.
You were talking about ā€œincentivize bottingā€ thatā€™ is why I replied that.

I would happily play golf for VP
but we donā€™t have golf anymoreā€¦

I still think we need more stuff in-game before proceeding with incentivizing people to be thereā€¦

There is not enough content on DCL. Spend that MANA to hire a studio that will develop content on DCL. Wait a liā€¦

  1. Players are not the ones we want to incentivize with VP.
It is content creators that you should be thinking about incentivizing with VP !
Or even better, simply with MANA.
(Or with MANA Coupons, cā€™mon guys )
  2. Do you not know about Google ?

Why not? isnā€™t that what we lack and what we would like to increase?

Who is to decide what is going to happen to DCL ?
The land owners !
How are they going to decide ?
By organizing in a DAO !
How are they going to hierarchize ?
An experimental VP Democracy !

VP is not for gamers.
You want to incentivize gamers to come ? Make it extremely pleasant for content-creators !
Donā€™t give gamers or content-creators VP, which they wonā€™t care much about.
Give themā€¦ MANAā€¦

Cā€™mon guys, MANA Coupons :100:
