Introduction
This month was the most exciting as all of our efforts came to fruition with a fun product that opens the stage for further development.
Thanks to a lot of testing we perfected the car game mechanic and finalised the game loop. By defining the final user journey and UI system we achieved a smooth game loop where users move forwards by qualifying on each track to unlock more difficult levels. We have implemented the final scoring logic that allows users to earn points based on their performance.
Highlights
On the 3D side, we worked on many things this month:
- Racetrack specific decoration assets, textured. Examples: red lights, ad poles, start line, fences, turn indicators, modular tribunes, etc.
- Environment specific decoration assets, textured: forest, desert, seaside foliage.
- Cars: the 3 car models have branded exteriors, nicely textured, ready for racing.
- Track and environment: we created 4 race tracks using our modules. We decided to have asphalt as a base texture for the road in all the three proposed environments, while the exterior part of the road will change to grass, dirt or sand.
On the development side:
- We developed and implemented the final user journey that ensures a smooth game loop and clear steps on how a user can move forward by qualifying on the tracks, unlocking more difficult levels and better cars.
- After a lot of testing the final scoring logic has been implemented. This allows users to earn points not just by qualifying on a track but also beating their own personal best. By persisting player’s progress this ensures that users can come back and practise more to get even better results.
- We tested and finalised car control: added different physics/handling per car so users can unlock cars with better performances as they progress. We also improved car drifting and improved the perspective change from 1st to 3rd person
- Besides the already existing animations we added a smoke particle effect when the user is drifting.
- All the final UIs have been added to the scene, including the big panel for starting the game and notifications during the game loop.
- Final environmental assets have been added
- Final car interiors and exterior designs have been implemented

Next steps
As this was the last month of the project, the game itself is ready, we will continue to test and bug fix if needed until the event. Our final efforts will go into the launch event that takes place between the 14th and 17th March.
