[DAO:a1254eb] Reduce DAO Committee Salary

by 0x247e0896706bb09245549e476257a0a1129db418 (coalition)

Summary

This proposal suggests reducing the current DAO Committee salary of $2,400 per month, given the current low level of DAO activity. This change reflects the current workload and helps ensure thoughtful use of DAO funds.

Motivation

Following the deprecation of the Grants Program and an overall decline in DAO-related activity, the workload for the DAO Committee has decreased. Additionally, the MANA token is going through a challenging period, making it even more important to allocate the DAO’s resources responsibly and sustainably.

Proposed Solution

Reduce the DAO Committee salary to a more appropriate range, such as $1,000 or between $1,500–$2,000 per month. The final amount can be decided through community discussion, with input from the DAO Committee members as well.

Voting Options

Yes: Reduce the DAO Committee salary

No: Keep the current salary of $2,400/month

This will almost certainly never reach enough VP to pass all three rounds of governance, but HP has said in the past he would support paying these positions less.

I know that Tobik would never pay anyone as much as he is getting paid to do as little as he is without suggesting it was criminal.

Without a doubt Yemel had not intended this position to do nothing but sign contracts, feel free to go back and read what he wrote when making the governance to start paying the position in the first place.

Yes, I agree that a review of the salary for this position is a good idea. I am also inclined to consider a reduction in the number of team members required. I would appreciate a better understanding of what each member brings to the role, as much of their work may occur “behind the scenes.”
Thank you,
Jenn

Looks like you all want a tier based governance system now:

Where people are actually accountable..
Roles are more organised..

We are only 3 and that’s the minimum for a multi-signature wallet, I don’t believe it would be a good idea to put the DAO treasury in the hands of a single person, so reducing the number of members is not really an option.

I also don’t think that being responsible for the (day-to-day) DAO treasury is worth less than it is currently being paid.

A bit funny to see LordLike talking about “thoughtful use of DAO funds” when he wasted 32,000 USD of the DAO funds.

To avoid a conflict of interest, I hope the committee members will abstain from voting on this proposal.

Hey HP,

I understand the need for multiple people to manage the key, and I appreciate that you are one of those people. If I should be honest, I barely care about DCL anymore or even voting or visiting but I do believe that there is overspending in your department. I do not understand what value @Tobik brings. Again, I may not understand the behind-the-scenes value so would like to hear from him on that.

I think many people are disappointed in Decentraland and continue to lose faith in this project and because many associate the committee with corruption, irrational decisions and bureaucracy.
It might be worth considering the delegation of DAO committee powers to artificial intelligence.

The Committee is here to enact proposals voted by the community, not to do decisions, therefore there cannot be corruption, irrational decisions or bureaucracy.
Using AI for that role would be plain foolish, it simply doesn’t make any sense. If you really want to get rid of the DAO Committee, you could have proposals directly enacted on-chain, it pose the risk of an entity stealing the whole treasury in a single proposal or changing the rules to give them full power over the DAO.

You contradict yourself, on the one hand you write that the committee accepts proposals voted for by the community, and not to make decisions, but when it comes to delegating these powers to a neutral party, for example-AI, you immediately say that money can be stolen. Based on your logic-committee members also have the ability to empty the treasury.

creating an autonomous economic agent using a platform like fetch ai is a very real task, it would increase the community’s trust in decentraland, and as a moderator and curator, ai is an ideal option. technically, this is a feasible task, and the level of development of ai allows for complex and responsible tasks. this is a question of ethics and the greed of those who receive salaries from public funds.

I didn’t say “accept”, I said “enact”

Yes, and that doesn’t work.

Freysa was released on November 22 with one simple rule: under no circumstances should it transfer funds.

An Ethereum user, p0pular.eth, successfully convinced Freysa to transfer all of the funds in the challenge

It’s ok to be numbed by all the AI hype going on right now, there is a reason those AI are called GENERATIVE AI, their goal is not to do rational decisions, purely to predict the most probable next word/character in a sentence.
The best LLMs still can’t count how much Rs there is in Strawberries or what is bigger between 9.11 and 9.9, and yet you want to give it the responsibility of 50M USD… :man_facepalming:

Yes, we can (at least of the operational multisig, and with at least two signatures), that’s why it’s important to have at least 3 independent and trustworthy individuals, even if there is a rogue (or hacked) individual, the two other would block the transaction.

What LLMs can’t do that these days?
A lot of humans would struggle with the same question :strawberry:..
I develop 10x quicker with AI tools..

AI has changed the whole game..
Eventually giving AI control over DCL makes sense..
For now, reducing our outflows is probably more important..

With this answer about the level of development of AI you only show your incompetence in the matter. in my vision, the ideal committee of decentraland is several AI agents based on different artificial intelligences. The committees work is coordination, monitoring and administration, and the final decision rests with the decentraland community - correct me if i m wrong?
