[DAO:89c73ce] Growth and Maintenance of Decentraland Brazil Community "DCL_Brasil"

Hello, Community!

Our team, the Grant Support Squad, has been diligently assisting grantees in their journey while ensuring the optimal utilization of the DAO treasury. In this regard, we’ve reviewed this project and have a few things to share.

The proposal applied for a grant under the Documentation Category. Over the past weeks, we have been exploring various options to assist them in aligning their proposal to their aims. However, the main objective significantly goes beyond documentation. Therefore, we have decided to escalate this case to the revocation committee for further consideration with their vesting contract and also allocating a specific amount for all the work done until now.

We warned the grantee about this since the first email during the first weeks of the onboarding process and in the following meetings, and the information provided by the Grantee mainly focuses on the community’s efforts to promote Decentraland in Brazil by supporting new users, fostering growth, and providing resources and guidance to creators. While these efforts are commendable, and we encourage them, they do not directly address the specific requirements of the Documentation Category. The documentation category, as it is written in the documentation of the grants program, has requirements such The topic shouldn’t be already well-covered in the official documentation and (…)these should be all in English, to ensure they’re readable by the majority of users”, as it is stated in the Awesome Repository contribution guideline.

We appreciate the grantees’ efforts in attempting to create different roadmaps, but it was challenging to establish a consistent proposal. In that sense, the chosen category is not consistent with the objectives, personnel, budget, and roadmaps presented for the Growth and Maintenance of the DCL Brazil Community.

Where roadmaps were updated, they are not consistent with the objectives, personnel, budget, and the category chosen for the Growth and Maintenance of the DCL Brazil Community.

The documentation category, as it is written in the documentation of the grants program, has requirements such the topic shouldn’t be already well-covered in the official documentation.

The roadmap was unclear for a 6-month project, and the team’s personnel could be too large for a Documentation grant. It is confusing whether the funding allocated for personnel is for a few months upfront or for a refund.

According to their original proposal, which was voted on by the community, and the roadmaps presented after the grant was approved, the team has made significant progress on the “DCL BRASIL” social project. Their efforts have focused on creating an inclusive space in Decentraland through education, communication, and fostering a sense of belonging for all participants. They have provided support and training through various channels such as Discord, WhatsApp, and social media platforms.

Based on the work they have accomplished thus far, we recommend that the Revocation Committee carefully consider allocating a specific amount as a refund to acknowledge and support the efforts made by the team.

We have identified an opportunity for improvement: the DAO should continue to prioritize its support for community builders

  • The Grant Support Squad, in collaboration with the Facilitator Squad, will be conducting a poll to engage the community in a discussion about the potential creation of a new category specifically dedicated to "community builders”, as we written in the article published
To effectively establish this category, we will need to define key concepts, establish requirements, determine impact metrics, and allocate a budget, similar to the existing categories.
  • High-quality information about the Grant Program and its requirements is needed, and we compromise to address it. The Grants Support Squad will add this Awesome Repository contribution guideline of documentation being only in English to the requirement of the documentation category.

For the reasons exposed, In line with governance procedures, we will elevate this case to the Revocations Committee ( @dax @MetaDoge @maryana), recommending revoke the vesting contract, and allocate a specific amount kind of refund for the work made so far. This recommendation will temporarily pause the grant’s vesting contract, which the DAO Committee (@HPrivakos + @Tobik ) will execute. This pause will allow time for the Committee to make an informed decision.

We believe that these actions will help preserve the integrity of the grant process while ensuring the appropriate support for all grantees and the Community.

Let’s continue to work together to grow our communities and further our shared goals.
