[DAO:5981418] Utilizing DAO-Owned Land Parcels

by 0x7bbea9c18cd0541acab8c19da2b11d0c03faef1c (1Existence)

Overview:
During a previous initiative, the DAO purchased a significant number of land parcels. This acquisition phase has concluded, and we now possess “X” parcels that may either remain empty or contain outdated builds. This poll seeks to gauge community sentiment and gather ideas on how these parcels could be utilized temporarily, ensuring that they remain active and beneficial to the community.

Ideas for Consideration:

  1. Showcasing Sandstorm Submissions: One potential use is to place Sandstorm contest builds on some of these parcels. Since the DAO provided funding for these build contests, utilizing the land for this purpose would not only make the land productive but also demonstrate appreciation for the creators. A committee member would be required to deploy the builds, and if I’m not mistaken, there is assistance available to upgrade them to SDK7 if they are older.

  2. Community Utilization of Land: Another idea is to allow the community temporary access to these parcels. This could be in the form of free usage for a set period or allowing grantees to use the land. However, a key consideration is ensuring that any temporary usage does not result in wasted resources. For instance, if a grantee builds a game on the land, there must be a clear plan for what happens to that game once the land’s usage period ends. One possible solution could be offering the grantee the option to purchase the land at a reasonable price to ensure continuity.

Objective:
This poll is a first step toward developing a structured proposal. All ideas are welcome, as they will help shape a plan that can eventually be formalized into a policy. If this poll receives a majority YES, future proposals would separate the two ideas for further development.

Your feedback is crucial to ensuring that these parcels are used in a way that benefits the entire community.

Thank you,

Yes, we should start utilizing DAO owned parcels.

Some ideas from me…

I like the build competitions for sure and maybe the prize is a parcel. I still think there should be a monthly wearable contest by the DAO as well. Inline with my other poll on End Dates these would be temporary for now and just so the place does not look so empty. They could be removed at anytime should the parcel be sold or given away or used for another purpose.

What do we think about burning/destroying parcels?

what becomes of it then? its an empty plot forever? I suppose in some ways that might be good to prevent over crowding like i heard about in voxels but not something i think should be done until we start growing more.

The idea behind the burning is that we can reduce the size of the game…

We have a grid of 300 x 300…
So If we burn 900 random squares…
Then we reduce the map by 1%
We still use the co-ordinates system…
We just remove the squares from the game…
So if @99,99 is burned… You would jump from 99,98 to 99,100 if you’re walking north…
Then if we incentivize the burning thing then all the active scenes get closer…

We need every single issue of LAND. As long as a parcel is empty, its value will keep decreasing. Burning them will not add value.

Burning them will add $ to the value to LANDs… Less supply, more demand…
If a parcel is burned then users could teleport through the LAND quicker.
So instead of taking 30 minutes to walk from one side of decentraland to the other. It could take 3 minutes…

It’s depressing to see the empty spaces or abandoned structures, I think it’s necessary to find a solution to the deserted appearance of Decentraland, but only if the downward pressure on the price of LAND can be avoided. A burn would be another radically different option but would partially solve the appearance of abandonment.

I’m voting yes to see how it continues since I think a solution needs to be found, however we have to be careful giving away land easily for the reason mentioned, perhaps a strategy could be evaluated to attract new creators by temporarily giving away plots, or else evaluate the idea of @BET which seems to me to be an option worth seriously considering.

@Existential14, perhaps mountains or some static element could be added to take their place, or perhaps study some kind of reorganization of the plots, although this could bother those who have plots with round numbers

I feel that some open spaces are not a bad thing. Have you seen what happened in voxels. It can become an unattractive mess. I am building on a parcel and try to build in a way that blocks out the neighbors. fortunately onse side has no one but some builds are over the top with ads or emissions. Not saying we need a lot and of course some people could build nice nature builds which i hope they do but I would not want to remove anything permanently. IMO.

if there was a 1m path around each scene…
I’d be happy with that…

Utilizing DAO-Owned Land Parcels

This proposal has been PASSED by a DAO Committee Member (0xfb1afa4dc069ffb47b19dbee196045d508fcd5a2)

I wonder if this could work and how much work it would take. There is now going to be a large space between the water and the land where no parcel can be owned. It sounds at least, completely possible and I would like this option available for at least the single parcel ownership. The problem I see with this is how would it be done so that if someone owns several plots together they can still build all their parcels, how would that work? Or if even two neighbors want to connect a build together somehow or someway, how could that path be removed or in the reverse, be added back.

This proposal also solves the problem of empty LAND.
Just needs to be implemented by someone.

Someone should tell the executive arm to speak with the director about going to the council to convince the foundation that this is worth building. So the council can relay their answer back to the executive arm so they can find some devs to implement it. @ginoct
Or… we just dump this on the tier 1s desks and whatever dev implements it can ask for a bonus…
