[DAO:2e382a1] Should the DAO lease the LANDs they own to grantees that might need them?

This initiative proposes a method to put Decentraland DAO’s unused LANDs to work. A few months ago the DAO passed a proposal requesting the Committee to buy LANDs in Genesis City. At the moment the DAO owns +70 plots of LAND that are not being put to good use. We aim to offer these LANDs rent-free to creators who seek grants for developing engaging in-world experiences in Decentraland, enhancing the vibrancy and attraction of our virtual world.

Key Points:

  • LAND Leasing as an Opportunity: Grant applicants can request a free, temporary lease of DAO-owned LANDs to bring their projects to life in Decentraland when requesting a Grant. This approach addresses the issue of unused LANDs, encouraging productive and engaging use.

  • Short-Term Leasing: These LANDs are offered for a maximum period of six months, encouraging focused development efforts. After those 6 months, the LAND will be returned and the Grantee would have to either pay rent to the DAO or find another spot to deploy their experiences.

Goals:

  • Revitalize unused LAND with new attractions and experiences.
  • Enable creators with limited resources to participate in Decentraland’s growth.
  • Ensure a diverse, ever-evolving landscape within our virtual environment.

DCL DAO profile in the Marketplace showcasing the LANDs/ESTATEs we own: Decentraland - Marketplace

@HPrivakos Why don’t you donate this NAME to the DAO? DCLDAO - Decentraland Marketplace

That was the goal, I haven’t found a good use case by the DAO for it yet.

On a technical side: Everything to lend LANDs for free already exist and is already setup. (using the Foundation linker-server instance)

Another way to utilise these lands would be to set up quests where users have to visit each parcel to complete a challenge.

Great to hear that. I was thinking that this proposal should evolve to a change on the Grant request form and rules to the Grant program, that’s all.

I’d love to see that, you can start a Bidding & Tendering process to fund the initiative

Visiting a bunch of empty lands doesn’t sound very fun

why would grantees lease DAO’s lands instead of leasing from the marketplace? What is the benefit if any?

Quest across 70 lands is more logical because previous quests and treasure hunts were all in the same place or plots. This unique element adds a gamification if configured the right way.

Why would the land be empty if it’s a quest? Kind of defeats the purpose right. Egg before the chicken analogy.
