I like this and other Decentraland promotion. But Decentraland is continually in Beta … it is not finished. Therefore you are going to show the “best” of Decentraland to combat negative media … while the unfinished product has unfinished aspects to it … even to the point of being non-playable at points.
And this is why I am critical on the bugs/unfinishedness of Decentraland. I don’t really want to invite people to “buy into” this unfinished product. It also has numerous bugs at any given time. To continue to invite people to an unfinished/bugged product is sort of asking for bad PR.
I don’t know if you all were here for the Metaverse Art Week 2023 tours by Bay Backner, I recorded all of them for the most part. But there were numerous times that artists being interviewed had trouble operating DCL due to glitches and bugs … and she cheerfully consoles them to keep trying that’s the “fun” of the metaverse … you never know whats going to happen, lol. … that isn’t a perk, I thought it was very cool and a positive way to carry on … but that isn’t the “fun” of the metaverse, consistent bugs and an unfinished product. New people see these bugs and are hindered by them … and support may or may not help. Promoting something that is not finished may cause more harm than good. I do understand that is part of the beauty of this environment, is the ability to change it.
I think it’s met whatever threshold as far as vote, just my take on it. In summary: Have a more finished/complete product before selling/promoting it.
I have to agree with @Zom. More often than not, I feel the same way, and many times I have given up on events and games after crashing 3 or 4 times, or things being broken. Hanging out in Decentraland is a painstaking process… we can scream onboarding all day, but a new user would have given up long before achieving any of the fun I’ve been able to achieve. The frustration is real. The bigger events where we invite thousands of people are even worse than the small ones. How many new users did we gain during MVMF and how many have come back to DCL since? What about Pride, MVAW, MVBW? If foundation can’t muster up a large number of new and repeat users, or combat the bad media with all the resources at their disposal, how can any grant project be expected to do the same? This issue has been raised before and continues to come up, we keep inviting people into a broken space and then trying to figure out gimmicks to get them to stay, or sweep the obvious under the rug. This is not sustainable.
Thank you all for your recent comments, we apologize for any delay in response.
@AwedJob Thank you for seeing our vision in terms of sharing UGC and uplifting as many others as we can in the process. We have been busy preparing ways in which we will be communicating with various entities in the community for collaborations and how we can best represent their own unique needs.
While we don’t want to reveal too much, we have a few different ideas that would help us accomplish the above in order to give people options and find the most suitable strategy.
@Zom@CheddarQueso We can certainly appreciate the frustrations you have voiced here, however we see a lot of value in marketing during Beta as it allows us to present our own version of the story and manage expectations properly. While we have mentioned onboarding as one of the goals we seek to accomplish. our primary focus is to have more positive and constructive conversations and highlight the hard work and development that has gone into DCL up to now. If we are communicating in a more authentic way, we hope to draw in more people who can and want to contribute to the Beta in various ways.
We’ve all experienced the bugs you’ve mentioned, but without a larger user base there is less reporting and less opportunity to improve. Decentraland’s Beta is a product built by the users, without them to create the landscape, provide experiences that resonate and find new niches to fill, we wouldn’t have art galleries to host art shows or be exposed to new forms of art through wearables and builds.
Our intention is not to dress Decentraland up, but rather to tell as many authentic stories as we can in order for people to better understand what they’re in for and how they can help make their own mark on the development and progression of it.
Our motivation behind this project is to have a ‘social media for the people’ - the foundation does a great job promoting the larger events and updates that they are hard at work on, however we are proposing a dedicated and applied strategy on promoting the community and demonstrating what we’re all capable of and what it’s like to be part of.
I agree with your philosophy and have already voted in favor… I always like to give these things at least one try because I believe the results of your findings will yield some valuable information that may help us make future decisions. Looking forward to your updates.
We definitely appreciate your vote of confidence and the time and creativity that you dedicate to DCL content. We are beyond grateful and do not take this lightly - we look forward to serving everyone and shining a light on all of the aspects of DCL. We’ll be in touch soon, we look forward to getting more of your insight on how we can give this the best shot possible!
Thanks to each and every community member who engaged with our proposal, we will take all feedback into account as we move forward.
Sincerely,
