[DAO:3478526] Should we have an English class on Decentraland?

by 0xaea2d43b9d206be05de7d24b3fa5c28fa05a43e4 (PaxParadise)

We all know that English is a global language, so many people around the world want to learn English. An English class on Decentraland, why not? When people think about learning English, they can think about going to Decentraland. A lot of people will be looking forward to this, including me, I also want to join this class.

We are funding for LiveTeach. This project should help us to build the first-ever English Class on our platform.

People can learn English, we can get feedback from them to make the learning experience on Decentraland more and more effective. We have to build something easy to learn and interact with.

In the beginning, this class should be free. I hope the DAO can provide funds for class operation. We can think about it as a Marketing Campaign. Our platform now is too lack players, we need to make our platform more vibrant.

In the future, when everything is running smoothly, we can consider charging users. The profits will belong to the DAO after deducting all expenses.

So, what do you think?

With a diverse and growing community, ESL classes would be super beneficial. I can see the DCL University teaching proposal help make this possible for community members to host this.

We would need to gather all the bilingual community members who are comfortable with translating their native language into English words, or make an AI tool smart enough to do this translation automatically.

I believe this is a good project, and in the future, we can consider adding Chinese education since the Chinese market is the largest. However, I have reservations about the grant required. It depends on how many students you can attract. For instance, if we have 200-300 people online simultaneously, I wouldn’t find it excessive. But if it’s just a few individuals, asking for 140k might seem a bit steep. I suggest starting small and letting the data demonstrate its value.

@maryana Yes, however, I can see that the SDK is not ready yet. I am waiting and looking forward to it to see what I can do with that SDK.

@LandlordDao , for this project. I don’t think it needs that much grant (140k).

I hope it can be around 30-50k for class operation (6 months).

I agree with @LandlordDao on this one. I’d hope this would be a free course that can be offered by someone using the future teaching software. Im not sure if we should recreate the wheel of making a whole “English grant” platform. I’d work with @JamesA to collaborate on using his platform first since DAO funds have been allocated for that already.

@maryana that would be perfect. Then we no need to recreate a new grant request for this one

@2lanvip I’d say take it by day  I hope to see an amazing collaboration to make it possible - if it does not make sense, I’d support a reasonable teaching proposal, but we also need to get a grasp of how successful it would be.

(I’m currently in the process of teaching my recent cousins from Ukraine learn English, I wish I can point them to an online course  - I am the course)

I’d also love to see a Duo-lingo like experience in DCL that would take some of the “prioritized” top spoken languages of Decentraland emerging communities to make that self learning game (or your Live-Teach concept).

Russian, Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic speakers learning English for example.

I believe there is a strong need for language classes in Decentraland.

I do not believe we need to spend a large amount of DAO funds to make this happen in the beginning.

I’m voting yes to take this to the next stage, but I will not support a grant that asks for a large sum of money to fund this. Many projects build a use case first, then present that to the DAO so we have a MVP to ascertain the quality of your work.

Language learning is everywhere on the Internet. It is highly competitive. What problem will your project solve that these other companies do not (Duolingo for example). What can Decentraland allow you to do that a traditional website would not? I believe that answering these ^ types of questions are vital for finding traction here. Best of luck to you!
