Currently DAO uses a Snapshot for all proposals. Snapshot is a off-chain voting tool based on the IPFS decentralized storage system. Snapshot doesn’t use ‘on-chain’ verification.
Snapshot sometimes fails to calculate Voting Power.
On-chain voting could potentially resolve these issues by moving vp logic calculation on blockchain and making voting available despite third-party failures. Using solutions such as Polygon will help optimize gas fees.
This proposal is to understand community opinion on whether the DAO should have an on-chain voting tool to create and store most important DAO governance decisions; not to have a single point of failure in a voting process due to Snapshot lags.
yea bro im not paying 1-6 dollars for every vote if thats case consider it another nail against platform. I wana know the answer to your question and will be waiting before i vote.
CurveDAO uses Snapshot off chain voting for initial sentiment polls of token holders, and only proposals that successfully pass the polling stage are put up for an on chain vote.
Maybe we can have hybrid system where poll/draft will be off-chain and most important governance decisions on-chain? There are not so many gov proposals.
While I do think at some point DCL and DAO should create their own ways to vote and function with sites and not rely on a 3rd party, I think for what’s available atm snapshot is the best option. And until the DCL/DAO team can create their own on-chain version w out fees, then we should keep what we have. Voting invalid option, as my choice is not a yes or no but somewhere in between.
Thx for reply. There is already snapshot x with layer2 starknet tech which reduces fees.
There is two more steps ahead(draft, gov) and the goal of this poll to raise this topic/think about ways how to do itin future but not to implement it asap.
