Introduction

Hey DCL Community, happy to be back with an update regarding what has been completed in May!

Overview:

  • Round #4 Preparation / Launch / Hiring / Project development
  • Round #5 Preparation
  • Round #6 Preparation
  • Marketing Events based on community productions (Creator Parties)

Highlights

According to the new timeline established with the GSS, we are currently working on a 1M / Round pace, with the goal of being fully completed with the entire project by August 1st. In order to achieve that, we have (1) already pre-launched Round #4 and were working with creators on the different deliverables during May. Now, we will (2) launch both rounds #5 & #6 simultaneously, in order to give creators enough time and not press them while staying on track with our goals.

  1. Round #4 - Natureโ€™s Elegy was in full swing! We were pleased to welcome 11 new creators within this rounds initiative in order to create new scenes for the DCL Community.

Within those projects, you will find a wide variation of builds that aim to showcase the beauty of nature, this goes from raw environmental builds, to conceptual, to miniature visuals of the animal worlds. There is something for everyone!

The Round #4 (Natureโ€™s Elegy) files have been finalized and collected in our repo, you can find them here: Creativity_Growth_Grant_Decentraland/Round #4 - Nature's Elegy at main ยท SandstormDCL/Creativity_Growth_Grant_Decentraland ยท GitHub

Small note: certain files will / may change in the coming weeks as we optimize them and include the full SDK7 scenes (see blockers). With currently shared files, you should have access to the core content produced.

  1. We have launched a new initiative in partnership with Tangpoko, that we call โ€œcreator partiesโ€. This is our mockup showcasing whatโ€™s possible to achieve with creations made within this grant.

Some content samples:

May 16 party: x.com
x.com

May 23 party:

May 30 party: x.com

  1. We are additionally optimizing some additional files so they can fit within the github repo. This was especially necessary & noticed when we worked on the different creator parties, optimizing the space for further content productions. Unfortunately, more often than not, files are better managed outside of github, allowing for larger file sizes and less strict file management. We will push onto the github the updated scenes based on the adjustments we made on top of the core scenes produced in the rounds. That way, if somebody wants to create a party using those updated scenes, they can anytime!

Blockers

Since we have the aim to onboard new creators within DCL, most have had issues navigating SDK7 and the current editor.

We will allocate budget to a development team in order to help us clean up past files + support newly onboarded creators in order to streamline the process (you may see changes in the github repo of past rounds as a result).

Next steps

By the 31st of May, we will:

  • Launch both Rounds #5 & 6 on our marketplace
  • Do content marketing for Round #5
  • Start reviewing applicants

In June:

  • Creator payouts for Round #4
  • Hiring & Production of Round #5
  • (Maybe) Hiring & Production of a part of Round #6
  • Onboarding of a dev team to review past deliverables & optimize files
  • More creator parties (once a week)
  • BD to explore further opportunities for creators who participated in the initiative

We had our monthly meeting with the grantee, and the project is back on track: Round #5 is launched and round #6 will be launched in the middle of the month.

We agreed that they will update the Progress Spreadsheet soon (Creativity & Growth grant - PROGRESS SHEET - Google Sheets), showing the payments for Round #4 and the progress in everything else.

They will optimize the GitHub files, and for the projectโ€™s closure, they will recommend open-source assets from their creators to offer those resources openly here: Decentraland Studios.

By the end of the month, they commit to closing Round #5 as agreed.

Add any info you want, @Oscom.
