To Postulate, or not to Postulate?

TLDR: If the council forms, I am not staying for “Recentraland”.

If I stayed for so long, it is because I do not want to work for a corporation.
If a council is formed that will be composed mostly of the same amateurs who have presided over the sinking into a ghost-town, the situation will be even worse than working for a corporation !

I have pondered long and hard over how to proceed with this.
Instead of being able to use this time creating more wondrous content, mind you !
But in the end, there really is no other choice.

The formation of a council, that will have as one of its missions the establishment of an “Executive Arm”, represents a gross violation of the original trust set forth in the whitepapers.

https://decentraland.org/whitepaper.pdf?page=2

Unlike other virtual worlds and social networks, Decentraland is not controlled by a centralized organization. There is no single agent with the power to modify the […] economics of the currency

https://decentraland.org/whitepaper2.pdf?page=4

Built with open standards as a public good, it operates beyond the control of any single entity

An Executive Arm would be a misappropriation of this “ownership of the LAND-owners”.
Considering that there cannot be legal implication from this is quite ludicrous.

Decentraland is a virtual reality platform powered by the Ethereum blockchain. Users can create, experience, and monetize content and applications.

As one of those who was attracted by this glorious promise, I can personally attest as to how this promise has been broken.
And from conversations I’ve had with others, it is quite clear I am far from being the only one having grievance over this.

Over the last year, I went on a deep dive of the situation in Decentraland, to try to understand not just what needed to be fixed, but also why things had gotten so broken in the first place.
And now I truly have a lot to say about it. And it is not pretty.

The vast majority of the applicants for a position on this council are, in my professional opinion, sorely unqualified for any such position.
Decentraland has become a ghost-town under the “leadership” of most of them, who have been presiding over this downfall with the use of their VP.
Now they are intent on institutionalizing their inability to properly lead the Decentraland project.
A council would essentially provide them corporate powers to push through changes which they couldn’t get the community to approve on.

This is just absolutely not where I intended to invest my vast Software Engineering expertise.

If I stayed for so long, it is because the Great Grand Country of Decentraland, where the American Dream can be possible all over again, is an Arcadia so wonderful that it just had to be given a chance.

If that chance will be ruined by those who are blind to this dream, and want to instead follow corporate ideals, then I will see no further reason to stay in what can only become a doomed company.

What this council seeks to achieve, it can be done with VP Delegation Transitivity.
What is being called to provide to people for a salary, I am ready to provide for free !

I repeat: if this council does not form, I stay in Decentraland, and assist in fixing everything for free, at the service of the DAO community !

I have all the qualifications needed for all 5 of the backgrounds listed in https://forum.decentraland.org/t/open-call-to-dao-council-nominations.

  • Strategic Management & Business
Strategy and Software Architecture are my main strengths. My professional employment also gives me important experience.

  • Finance
My professional experience has mostly been working for a brokerage firm, where I was exposed to a large amount of matters that are relevant here.

  • Creativity
As Artist Coder at heart, I have intimate understanding of what has been the most stymying true creativity in Decentraland (and seriously, you haven’t seen what I am truly capable of yet).

  • Technology
I have a Masters’ in Computer Science, and have recently gotten YouTube to play in a 360VR Sphere Video Player.

  • Community Building
I have been speaking to a large amount of community members in DMs, as the posts I have been making on these forums have mostly fallen on deaf ears (save those of the hecklers, who seem to have chased everyone else away).

  • I fixed the “Invisible Player” bug in my scenes.
  • I can get YouTube to play in the desktop apps for DCL (browser still pending !)
  • I found how to mitigate the “Green Walls”.
  • I have important insight in the “Missing Key-presses” bug.
  • I have important insight in the “Rave Bug”.
  • I can make most (if not all) SDK6 scenes functional again with a Transpiler.

Just to name a few !

I am fully qualified for the design and creation of web3 tools for Decentralized Committees.
I am fully qualified for the design and creation of an SDK8 API which would be blueprint-based.
I am fully qualified for the design and creation of an Unreal Editor client that can provide VR.

But I will only be doing all this for a community whose governance model remains fully decentralized.

I have the resolution for a number of the outstanding issues in the Client 1.0.
But I have not been willing to release this to a Foundation which has clearly decided to abuse of its situation over a hapless community.

For the Great Grand Dream of Decentraland, however… I was fully ready to do so !

And so I had decided to bring my fixes to the DAO community directly. But the ways to do so still need to be forged…
As I studied how to forge them (Jira !), the whisperings of the formation of a council came about.

A council would be the beginning of the end of the Great Grand Dream of Decentraland.
And so I had to delay even more my wondrous content-creation and go on a deep dive of the past of this DAO to understand what was going on.

And I have reached the conclusion that what is going on with this council formation may actually be highly illegal, and cannot even be allowed to proceed from this last standpoint alone.

First of all:
If suddenly there are actual legal entities to be sued, then there is quite a good chance for a few disgruntled LAND-owners to decide to go ahead and start lawsuits they may have been planning, with respect to the false claims that were made to them when they purchased their LANDs.
Whatever their belief may be about any such kind of false claim !
Knowing Human Nature, there is a very good chance for something like this to happen.

But more importantly:

As a security measure, elected Council members will have to disclose their real names and provide a valid photo ID to be shared with the rest of the elected Council members.

This needs to happen before a vote, not after a vote !
How are we supposed to have any way of validating that any given applicant’s resume is truthful otherwise ?
This is legally ridiculous !
I personally know the majority of the applicants, in my professional opinion, they are in no way qualified to be on any kind of such council.

As this is the first time the Council is being formed, members will also need to share their identities and ID with the Decentraland Foundation until the DAO establishes a formal legal entity. Once the DAO sets up its legal structure, it will take responsibility for safeguarding the KYC information of Council members.

until the DAO establishes a formal legal entity… How long is that ever going to take ??
For how long is it going to be only the Foundation, which is a separate legal entity, who will be the ones in charge of enforcing the “KYC” ? (KYC is the wrong term here, by the way)
Can we really trust an entity that has shown itself so incompetent as to deploy an Alpha product into production, and even attempt to label it “Beta” for a few weeks, to be able to properly “enforce this KYC” ?

Not really.
And it will no doubt be quite easy to make a legal case proving so.

And finally:

The Council will play a pivotal role in overseeing the DAO’s priorities, including potentially the Executive Arm

This a detail which makes it very likely for the SEC to want to weigh in. The original promise tied to VP is going to be completely thrown out the window if decision-power gets “reformulated” like this.

Very cool, def open to all alternative ideas right now since as we can see things are very stagnant. Efficiency is key and if this accomplishes this but also self self sufficiency would be epic. Processes with less or no red tape, committees or councils and not having to ask people for votes or permission i think would help everyone.

I wish to clarify a point: I am not professing an offer to actually fix it all by myself.

What I am trying to express is that I can bring all of this expertise at once to a DAO’s decentralized governance, including that of coordinating the efforts of a whole community.

Which, from what I understand, is really the main cocktail of ingredients which Decentraland’s DAO has been missing in the last few years.

I should also post some of my achievements:

  • Louis-XIV Tower
  • Vegas-Sphere style 360VR Video Player

This can be loaded around Genesis Plaza:

  • A variety of scenes and wearables for Foundation events (will elaborate later), such as
  • A UE5 client prototype
  • I have started the series of Threads on the tao-of-dao (which I shall seek to complete soon).

  • Various other:

I agree with this. This was the main reason to stop with grants. Yet I see same people applying for council postulation

We are trying to keep people with bad intentions out of the way, but with where DAO is heading I’m afraid those people will have a chance to get even more power.

I hope that right people will get chosen so 2025 will be great for Decentraland.
