[DAO:1110ba9] Should the postulants be strictly selected from the community only?

Beyond the issue of conflict of interest, the Decentraland platform now truly belongs to its community - including every inhabitant, player, and user, no matter how small their role may seem. The council should reflect this reality, ensuring that those who actively engage with the platform have a voice in shaping its future.

However, based on the current votes, three of the five council seats are likely to be filled by co-founders or former foundation members. I strongly believe that individuals who have previously held positions at the foundation should not be part of this council. Their leadership in the past does not justify continued control, especially when their decisions have contributed to some of the platform’s biggest missteps.

A prime example is Esteban’s VP delegation, which was a complete disaster. Whether intentional or not, his delegates voted on proposals that ultimately drained the treasury. While Esteban alone cannot be solely blamed, his VP delegates played a significant role in these failures. Now, some of these same individuals are seeking a seat on the council, raising serious concerns about accountability and governance.

Additionally, key figures like Agus, Maraoz, and Esteban have been absent from the community for years. Agus, in particular, has been disconnected for nearly three years. Electing individuals who have shown little to no involvement in Decentraland’s ongoing development would only weaken the council’s ability to represent and serve the active community.

The council must be composed of members who engage with the platform and its users daily—those who truly understand what is needed for Decentraland to thrive, both as a platform and as a digital society. This is why I strongly support Carl for the council. His knowledge, skills, experience, and expertise make him an ideal candidate. Metaryuk is another strong contender who deserves a seat.

Metaryuk has already stated that if Agus, Maraoz, and Esteban were selected for the council, he would give up his seat because he believes it would be unjust. I admire him for taking this stand, as it reflects the concerns of many within the community.

As for the remaining three positions, they should go to real, engaged members of our community not co-founders, ex-foundation members, or unqualified candidates. To be clear, I do not support PeanutButta, HP, Lordlike, or Helpimstreaming for these roles, as none of them are suited to represent the council. Decentraland’s future depends on strong, active leadership that genuinely understands and represents the community.

Defining the Council’s Expertise
It has been stated that the council will consist of five doxxed members who are subject matter experts in the following areas:

Strategic Management
Finance
Creativity
Technology

Evaluating the Best Candidates for Each Role

Finance – The best option for this position is Maryana.
Strategic Management – The strongest candidate for this role is Carl.
Technology – This is the expertise of Metaryuk & Pablo.
Creativity – The best candidate for this role is MrDhingia.

Whether you agree with my selections or not is not the point. The real issue is that Decentraland belongs to us, the community. Therefore, it makes perfect sense for the council to be formed directly from within the community itself.

If you have any recommendations or suggestions, now would be a good time to share them.

Do you believe Esteban, Agus, and Maraoz should be on the council?

Or do you think it would be better if all council members were selected directly from the community?

They already failed and allowed people like Rob Lynn and his fellow friends to ruin DCL, so I’m against them. I would like to see educated people from the community on the council.

Regardless of what has happened in the past, we have to look at the future.
We should focus on selecting the best suitable candidates out of who we have, whether good or bad.

I don’t think everyone realises the issue here.

This is going to sound harsh, but there’s not enough suitable candidates that are also players/community, so we end up “reintroducing” from the very limited people who are still here and willing to commit.

So my question is, would you prefer:

  1. Community members, who aren’t entirely suited for the job, or
  2. More competent(perhaps) people who have left the community and are now coming back.

Great points. Yes that is the dilemma.

Hence why I said, out of what we have.

Co-Founders visions are often far from what the communities visions are. Addition of lengthy time lapse by x-members who went missing for the large chunk of decentraland’s growing pains now feel their abandoned child has positive mutual feelings towards each other. However it’s actually the total opposite.

There are a few potential candidates who I feel deserve a seat more than others.
