Here’s My two Satoshis, based on reading the white-paper:
The DCL DAO is a proto-country that is still trying to understand itself (how it came into being is still a mystery to a significant number of its actors ).
This DAO is meant to be guided to maturity by an regent organized into a Foundation.
It was also guilded with quite a significant investment to provide the necessary resources for it to survive until maturity.
I do believe that is working ! In its “teenage phase”, the DCL DAO had a significant amount of money swindled away from it. And yet… it survives !
I hope no one will try to argue against the statement that this is super-bullish
Now the DCL DAO has reached more of a stature of maturity, and has begun questioning the nature of its identity.
One of the things that it should be doing at this point is to seek the guidance of advisors who can help sort out the wheat from the chaff in all the Proposals that are put in front of its Governance eyes in the bid for advancing the value of its web3 universe as a whole.
First and foremost, I wish to extend sincere salutations to all of those whom I have not yet met.
I am a Software Engineer, with 10 years of professional experience, designing and optimizing algorithms and network protocols.
I am a Visual Thinker, which allows me to thrive in the rapid-prototyping development environments provided by the DCL SDKs. The Blueprint design provided by the Unreal Engine also allowed me to quickly implement a flight-simulator prototype, which simply reads the information off of the catalysts just like the Foundation’s Unity client, and the DAO’s Godot and Bevy clients.
I have expertise with Blender, which allows me to quickly bring to bear the implementation of 3D designs, and to navigate the rocket-science needed to make designs work in DCL. My latest entry has only 500 triangles, despite having a number of rounded elements.
And I am a Gamer, whose Instinct of Scavenging
will push to draw spreadsheets in order to optimize the acquisition of… virtual stuff (oh Buddha, save us !).
The top spot on MGD and ToxicWaifu’s Tetris high-score table will be mine !
I am a problem-solver extraordinaire, I have amongst others identified a cure for the common cold (DM me for further details).
When I discovered DCL, I quickly realized the significance of what I had stumbled upon…
My expertise in the acquisition and design of virtual stuff could be turned into expertise acquiring and designing NTFs, and my instincts should be able to guide me in the design of experiences that will make people want to hunt for those NFTs.
But a number of problems befell my Decentraland experience.
At first… I coudn’t even connect ! The wallet signature request wouldn’t show up, etc. The number of users who manage to find their way to the Discord server to raise the issues hints at what may be the true number of those who have been turned away even before Genesis City ever loaded for them.
Then, even after succesfully connecting, the green walls were everywhere. And most of the time, no content had been loaded once the green walls disappeared
I hope no one will try to argue against the statement that this kind of stuff can only result in the culling of a vast number of players, who would otherwise end up enjoying and populating Decentraland.
Then I started designing DCL scenes. At first, simple SDK7 code worked without too much issue. So I decided to join the Wellness Week campaign, where I tried to use some of the more advanced SDK functionality.
And that is when it was, under the time pressures, that the SDK7 decided to break. This is extremely killer to the rapid-prototyping developers for whom this SDK suite is designed.
Sure enough, a history of coders running away because of SDK functionality breaking at the worst possible times subsequently surfaced during my time in DCL.
I hope no one will try to argue against the statement that this kind of stuff can only result in the culling of a vast number of content-creators, who would otherwise be building enjoyable experiences in Decentraland.
No content, no players ! The DAO can try to inject life into DCL with Proposals that fund regular Live Performances, but once the performances are over, there is not much to retain the individuals in DCL.
Of course, these Live Performances are a crucial parallel to the bars and festivals in which people can feel alive in RL. But they simply cannot be considered the only way to go.
The true calling of DCL is to be a city comprised of a wide variety of experiences neighboring each other, a whole other world in which one can strongly feel immersed…
