Summary
We started the session with a look at Spawn & Chill, a new mobile onboarding experience at chillzone.dcl.eth.
The Newsroom scene from Genesis Plaza has been repurposed to give new mobile users an easier introduction to Decentraland. Visitors can discover live events, join the community through Discord and social links, claim a free emote and jump directly to experiences like Cozy Farm.
A small marketing test is currently directing new mobile users to the scene, with the goal of showing that Decentraland is more than gaming and helping newcomers discover its social and live-event side. Community members have already been helping welcome new arrivals and we thanked them much for their support.
The main focus of the meetup was the upcoming Friendzone Buildathon, organized by Regenesis Labs.
The build period runs from August 14 to September 4, with winners announced on September 13. The challenge is focused on creating persistent, mobile-first social experiences that people want to return to. Possible concepts include social hangouts, multiplayer games, cooperative challenges, party games and other short repeatable experiences.
All submissions must be built in a Decentraland World, publicly accessible, tested on mobile, open source on GitHub and submitted through DoraHacks.
The Buildathon includes an $8,000 prize pool in MANA, with $3,000 for first place, and the Top 10 experiences will be featured in Decentraland Mobile discovery. The first 50 eligible submissions will also receive a $30 Decentraland Merch Shop voucher, while every eligible participant receives a Friendzone profile badge.
Judging will focus on mobile-first design, social value, mobile UX, performance, creativity, retention and overall execution. Detailed judging criteria will be published alongside the DoraHacks listing.
To support builders throughout the event, Regenesis Labs is planning several workshops covering topics like mobile UX, performance, GitHub and deployment. These will be followed by show-and-tell and support sessions, with a dedicated Discord troubleshooting channel running together with the Decentraland Foundation.
We also shared an update on the DAO Quarterly Request for Information (RFI). The new round is now open for 30 days, giving community members a structured way to submit questions around operations, treasury and reporting, DAO Council governance, oversight and mandate. Responses will be published publicly on the Forum.
The previous RFI round received one submission. Its response was delayed, and the Council apologized and committed to providing more timely responses going forward.
