Introduction

Welcome to the fifth update for the Technical Liaison and SDK Support Team. Our main goals are supporting scene creators, liaising with the Foundation, and migrating selected scenes from SDK6 to SDK7. As a complementary goal, we’re developing the SDK6 Adaptation Layer, which runs SDK6 over an SDK7 runtime so scenes can still work on new explorers.

Highlights

Technical Liaison

We keep collaborating with the Grant Support Squad to review the technical aspects of grants.
The Foundation SDK Product Manager has created a channel to discuss the experimental features and try to align them with the specifications.
We’re collaborating with the Foundation on giving support for the profile images generation by using the DAO Explorer in Godot.

Scene Migration

We have an issue in the protocol-squad repository to show the queue of scenes to be migrated. We keep the information up-to-date, and there are also link tests to work-in-progress/already migrated scenes. In September, we moved forward with the following scenes:

  • Vroomway: After the last talk with the scene owner, we agreed to try to target the whole scene’s behavior, including the two multiplayer races. This extends the scope stipulated, but it still fits in the three months allocated for this scene. The two multiplayer races have the challenge of using the already migrated Infinity engine.
  • Malabia: we found issues while we were migrating this scene, extended information in Blockers.

Scene Migration - Malabia Town

We’ve found issues while dealing with the Malabia town scene since the models provided are rarely mixed. As the scene is deployed in Genesis City, when we go there, the scene looks good, and we realize the issues we see aren’t there in production because the web client is suppressing the out-of-boundary content (the ones we found with issues).
In the web client, the SDK6 boundary checker works differently than the SDK7 one. We also tried scrapping the current deployed scene by getting the production models, but the issue is the same (and the models differ a little bit). When we put the models in an SDK6 scene preview, you can see how the out-of-bound content is marked red.

Next steps

In October we plan to finish the Vroomway and wrap up and communicate with all the scene owners to get feedback about the migrating proccess and how they qualify the work done.
