I support the idea of FREE to create upfront with a percentage to the DAO on the backend. Will vote YES to move the conversation along.

After a thoughtful discussion on Discord, a small fee appears to create a much better economy. I hope this will move forward for further discussion.

Thank you for your take and thanks for showing me a dark mode poll passed! Had to delete the other reply as when I clicked reply your name and image changed so I thought Jenn and DedHeadJ was two different people xD
Publishing fee is a great way to support DAO and Wearable Curation Committee but it is a significant drawback for some creators. I am suggesting to adjust the price to max. $100 for a set: head + earring + top + backpack + hands + bottoms + feet. Right now you either have to bundle everything and publish it as a single skin or pay $700 fee for just a single outfit. I never understood this expensive mechanism.
This is why I think $20 is a good start for now. We can adjust again in the future when/if people join and income to the dao comes more from elsewhere like market sales. But right now the income to the dao with publishing is pretty much none existent anyway with only 11 wearables published in January and one item sale will get it to ātrendingā. With it being $20 per item a brand could have a shirt, pants, hat, shoes and accessory for $100. Even in the future if we change to free publishing Iām happy with the royalties % to dao was upped a bit too as money going to the dao is a good thing but attracting creators is more important. But thatās a hypothetical discussion for the future. Right now this step to $20 is one we should take and everyone should be behind even the people that think it should be free. Which half of me thinks damn may as well be free with the lack ofā¦ everything.
StarVote#d61a how about $20 for the 30mins of skilled work with $0 going to the dao? Pretty much $0 is going to the dao rn anyway
How can we achieve billions or trillions of wearables on L2 Polygon for free?
Do we even need the curation team anymore with AI?
Letās open it up to the public and let people have fun creating things.
Personally, I also think that $100 is a lot of money, especially if we want to make DCL more accessible and empower more people to participate. Thatās why I support lowering the fee, even though Iām not sure if $20 is enough to cover the costs. Iād also like to hear what the curators think about it.
A lower fee would encourage more creators to publish wearables, which would benefit both the community and the platform. However, itās important to find the right balance - not so low that the marketplace gets flooded with low-quality items (like on Roblox), that costs canāt be covered, or that curators are put at a disadvantage.
We should make it easier for creators to reach their break-even point, ensuring that wearable creation remains sustainable and rewarding. Another way to achieve this could be reducing the cost of publishing a collection instead.
$100 is prohibitive for many people in the world that might otherwise create content and bolster the overall DCL economy.
Some ideas that might allow the content approval cost to be diminimusā¦
Perhaps the DAO could commission the creation of some test automation to make sure that the wearables are technically correct, leaving just a quicker visual inspection (a few seconds) to a human?
Can wearables generate commissions (or larger commissions) back to the DAO upon resale?
If you look at a marketplace of a mature virtual world, like https://marketplace.secondlife.com you get an idea what is possible in content economy, where creators can actually make a living at it. The funding is from a āsales taxā on the selling, rather than a barrier to entry. And deeper user/community reviews could be added to discuss the aesthetic and functional quality beyond just technical qualification.
A percentage (or larger percentage) of original and subsequent sales might be a better model for funding DAO treasury long term.
$20 wearable publish fee
