Introduction
How we doin Decentraland Community? Howie Doin here with our monthly update on the Atlas Analytics grant project! As always, don’t forget to check out the new features at: https://data-dapp-dev.atlascorp.io. Today we’ll share with you a high-level view of what we’re working on and what to expect next.
Highlights
This next month is about finishing all of the loose ends, the mandatory capabilities that while not flashy features, will make the platform a lot more usable and future-proof. We’ve been a bit light on developer resources this past month as the folks who normally contribute code - myself included - have been heads down on some unrelated projects. We met recently and have a plan to accelerate the development of some key features in the next two months.
- Open Sourcing the UI: All of the Atlas Analytics code has been made open source with the exception of the user interface. We’ll ensure the user interface is not only available, but its clean, up to date, and intuitive.
- NPM Installation: We resumed the project to make analytics installable via NPM. This step is crucial as it will simplify the installation process and is necessary for the development of our video tutorials - we can’t really invest in creating how-to’s when the how-to is not… how-to. So this has to be done beforehand.
- SDK 7 Integration: As part of the NPM installation, we need to ensure that all of the features work not only with SDK6 but SDK7. We know that some of you are using our “unofficial” SDK7 code which seems to work well for those using it. We still need to formally test it with all features, including the new features we’ve added over the past few months, before we officially support it in our stack.
Blockers
No blockers at this time. We’ve been generously offered help and services of the SDK7 support team if we run into trouble with our SDK 7 integration. I don’t foresee any major blockers coming out of this development (as mentioned above, some scene-owners are already using unofficial SDK7 code).
Next steps
Stay tuned for a more formal release of the “Atlas Analytics” package which will wrap up all of the development performed over the life of this grant.
One development concludes, we’ll be turning our attention to video content. Some ideas we have for video/tutorial coverage include:
- Tutorial: What is analytics / why are they important? (e.g. brief introductory video about analytics in the metaverse)
- Tutorial: How to install analytics (npm module, setting up custom events, granting access to users via scene.json)
- Tutorial: How to use analytics (a walkthrough of all the different data and what it means / how to interpret it / why you’d care)
- Testimonial(s): Videos from some of our larger users on how Analytics have helped them
- Case studies: Some analytics projects that Atlas Corp was involved in which may appeal to brands looking to invest in the decentralized metaverse and how it’s easy to get analytics for the KPIs or launch integrity to make the investment successful. Some examples of this might include the infamous coindesk article, custom analytics we did for Fortune 500s, or anti-cheating capabilities and how they were conceived and implemented.
If anyone in the community is interested in participating or being the subject of any of the above videos please let us know! We could feature your scene in our tutorial videos as a bit of free advertising, or if you’re a long time user of analytics and want to be in a testimonial video we’d be happy to feature you!
