Should the DAO continue funding grants outside of the Platform category for all of 2024?
Unrelated to this poll, here are some DAO reforms that I believe should be voted on by the community in other polls:
Grant requests must go through a 2 or 3 stage process: poll, trial, final grant request. If the community wants 2 stages instead of 3, then we can choose to require either a poll or trial before the final grant request.
Quarterly budget reduction of all categories up to 30% depending on community vote to decide which categories and by how much they should be reduced.
Having 3 stages of voting would create significant transparency around voting and hold voters responsible. It would become difficult for anyone to try to sneak through the final stage of an unpopular proposal with last minute whale voting.
If anyone else has a good idea of how we can fix the DAO’s grant system to prevent abuse, please share it with the community. For inspiration, you can refer back to the comments of the governance proposal that this poll seeks to reverse.
Please leave comments in the other polls discussing the “2-3 stages” and “budget reduction” questions to maintain single issue voting.
To clarify: This poll is only addressing the reversal of the recently passed “Freeze All non-Platform Grant Spending” governance proposal.
Seems like you would be better served spending your time garnering support for solutions to the agreed upon problems in the dao instead of attempting to overturn just passed governance.
Adding three stages to grants would just increase voter fatigue without fixing any systemic issues.

“Freeze All non-Platform Grant Spending” what does that mean in dcl?
ChatGPT:
In the context of Decentraland (DCL), the phrase “Freeze All non-Platform Grant Spending” likely refers to a temporary halt or suspension of spending or allocation of funds for activities, initiatives, or projects that are not directly related to platform grants. Decentraland, being a decentralized virtual reality platform, often supports development and community activities through grants. These grants are aimed at encouraging development, content creation, and community engagement within the platform.
Here’s a breakdown of what each part of the phrase means in this context:
All non-Platform Grant Spending: This refers to any expenditure or allocation of funds that does not fall under the category of platform grants. Platform grants in Decentraland are likely funds designated for specific purposes that support the platform’s growth, such as development of new features, community events, or content creation by users. “Non-Platform Grant Spending” would then encompass all other types of spending that are not directly funding these grant-supported activities.
In summary, “Freeze All non-Platform Grant Spending” in Decentraland implies a decision to temporarily stop all spending that is not directly related to the platform’s grant programs. This could be for various reasons, such as reallocating budget towards more critical or strategic areas, financial prudence, or restructuring of priorities within the platform’s development and community engagement strategies.
I love these vague proposals that get passed and then we spend the next few months debating about what a platform grant is…
if you are unfamiliar with the Grant Program documentation, perhaps you shouldn’t be suggesting changes, or even voting on, things related to it?
I know what a platform grant is…
I’m just joking that most of the VP whales probably don’t…
“I disapprove of everything non-platform” has been the excuse to vote no for everything lately…
Even if it is 90% platform related and 10% in-world…
