Dear Decentraland community,
2024 has been an unforgettable year for our project and the incredible community behind it. From hosting the first Community Summit in Buenos Aires to the Regenesis Summit, where DAO members came together to shape the future of governance and community projects, we’ve celebrated the milestones that strengthen our foundations. With the launch of the new client, and the revival of the crypto ecosystem, Decentraland is poised for greater heights in 2025.
To achieve this growth, as Executive Director of the Decentraland Foundation, I want to share a vision we must build together—uniting the efforts of all key players in this project: the Decentraland Foundation, the DAO with its evolving organizational structure, and, most importantly, our extraordinary community of creators, builders, and LAND owners who make Decentraland a unique and relevant space.
Focus for 2025: Activating Our Internal Economy
The cornerstone of our strategy for 2025 is energizing and expanding our internal economy. A dynamic, vibrant economy is the key to transforming Decentraland into a sustainable project.
To achieve this, we need more people to discover Decentraland, understand its unique value, and actively engage in its economy. This requires two fundamental objectives: acquiring new users and retaining them through memorable experiences that inspire deep involvement in our community.
User Acquisition: The Foundation’s Role
In this vision, the Decentraland Foundation will play a vital role in acquiring new users. Many of the necessary actions require a structure capable of managing contracts, partnerships, and resources with agility and brand authority. For this reason, the Foundation is currently best equipped to lead these efforts, which include investing in paid marketing channels and publishing Decentraland on game stores and major distribution platforms. Simultaneously, our engineering and product development teams will keep working on lowering the hardware requirements to make Decentraland accessible on more devices.
User Retention: Creating Unforgettable Experiences
However, acquiring users without providing an experience that motivates them to stay would be a strategic misstep. The launch of the new client this year was a major milestone, but there is much more to be done to create a thriving social world.
The Foundation’s focus will be on developing new features that make socializing in Decentraland a unique and exciting experience. We want new users to fall in love with our world and returning users to meet again with friends in the streets of Genesis City.
We are already working on a 2025 roadmap that includes initiatives like:
• Social Features: Friends, communities, spaces, meetings, tournaments.
• New UGC Economies: Pets, vehicles, social emotes.
• Creator Tools: Remote scene control, world interactions, particles, and physics.
• Accessibility: Smooth performance on low-end devices, multilanguage support, voice chat, and a delightful player experience.
The Role of the DAO: Driving Creativity and Growth
The DAO is poised to take a pivotal role in 2025 and beyond, especially in fostering content creation, events, and community growth. The ongoing organizational changes within the DAO have the potential to unlock significant resources from its treasury, enabling strategies that incentivize key ecosystem participants: LAND owners, scene creators, Wearable and Emote designers, community builders, event organizers, and new users.
The DAO’s treasury could be strategically used to reward creators of scenes, Wearable designers, community builders, event organizers, and LAND owners who are deeply committed and invest their time and resources in the project. These economic incentives would not only improve the quality of experiences in Decentraland but also position the platform as a sustainable revenue source for professional studios and creators.
The Decentraland Foundation is committed to supporting the launch of these initiatives as the DAO refines its strategy under the guidance of the newly approved DAO Council and its evolving executive structure. However, we firmly believe that the DAO should ultimately take the lead in funding, executing, and growing these strategies, as it directly benefits from the economic activity generated by these efforts in the form of fees that flow into the Treasury.
Towards a Memorable 2025
We want 2025 to be a transformative year for Decentraland. We will activate our internal economy and turn this platform into a vibrant space that fosters creativity, development, and significant social interactions among the people who populate Decentraland every day.
