Maraoz - DAO Council Postulation

maraoz - DAO Council Postulation

Professional Background & Expertise

I’m one of the original founders of Decentraland and co-author of the whitepaper. I think I bring a unique combination of technical knowledge, strategic vision, and deep understanding of our ecosystem.

I also have extensive experience in blockchain technology and open-source community building (bitcore, OpenZeppelin).

Cover Letter with my vision for Decentraland’s Future

Dear DAO Members,

I helped create the first Decentraland prototypes between 2015-2017 and was involved in naming the project. I helped define the original vision: a decentralized & open virtual reality world. Looking back, I’m proud to say we’ve achieved that initial vision, and I think becoming the de-facto standard for an open metaverse is next.

To achieve this goal, I propose three main areas of improvement: accessibility (introducing private lands and continuous LAND issuance), developer-friendliness (better documentation and an ecosystem development fund), and coziness (improved building tools and social interactions).

I believe making the platform more accessible to younger users, easier for developers to build upon, and more comfortable for long-term social interaction is crucial for Decentraland’s survival and success against big tech competitors in the metaverse space.

For a more in-depth read on my vision, see my blog post:

Understanding of Decentraland’s Ecosystem

I think I possess pretty good understanding of Decentraland’s history, tech, community, and market position.
I’ve watched and participated in our evolution from a concept to a leading metaverse platform.

Commitment to DAO & Council

If elected to the Council, I commit to:

  • Dedicating time to Council responsibilities.
  • Maintaining regular communication with the community.
  • Leveraging my network and experience to advance Decentraland’s interests.
  • Making decisions that prioritize long-term sustainable growth over short-term gains.

Additional Relevant Experience

  • Led multiple successful blockchain projects
  • I have experience in strategic planning and project management
  • Strong background in both technical development and business strategy
  • Active participant in the DAO’s governance evolution

I look forward to the opportunity to serve on the Council and continue contributing to Decentraland’s growth in this new stage.

Note: All required personal information and identification will be provided upon successful election, according to the Council requirements.

The 1st Council Nomination is in, and they have set the bar high!

I think this is a really important topic that we need to find a way to implement.

Maybe Genesis City is capped, but we can add islands and access points similar to how wow has you go through a portal to go to the other continents or boat rides.

I am very excited to finally see someone through their name out there, and I hope this inspires more people to do the same

I think your ideas sound amazing, especially the focus on accessibility and developer-friendliness. Private lands and continuous LAND issuance could bring new opportunities for creators and users, and better documentation would definitely make it easier for more people to contribute.

I’m not in favor of having a former founder as a member of the DAO due to a potential conflict of interest.

Also why do we keep supporting him with his ongoing maps grant? Personally I’ve never used or found the feature useful.

There is also the question why now? Since he founded dcl he has taken a different path & decided not to stick around, this brings the question of loyalty & trust. If you believed in the product why did you leave? I don’t believe he is the right candidate for this role regardless of his background or what he had done in the past.

These are great news. Maraoz’s ideas regarding DCL, especially Land, are very interesting. I believe the DAO will gain incredible experience with him.

Thanks, @maraoz, for the thoughtful postulation. Your commitment to the DAO restructuring has been evident to anyone who witnessed your public engagement in the forum and at the Regenesis Summit in Lisbon. Personally, I can attest that every time I sought your opinion or a review, you provided it with care and attention to detail. As someone who has successfully launched and matured several projects, I believe you would be a valuable addition to the board.

Thanks, @maraoz, for the postulation. I agree with @ginoct words, and you motivate me with your commitment to the DAO restructuring.

Disclaimer: on-the-need-for-professional-level-interviews-of-the-council-postulants

From anyone involved in the formulation of the whitepaper, I would expect an unyielding commitment to its principles.

Yet very little input is to be seen from this postulant with respect to supporting and/or mandating of the Foundation in the resolution of the issues with their product.

And the “Decentraland experience” has very much remained in disrepair.

Furthermore, this postulant is supporting the formation of a council which is in direct contravention with a whitepaper listed as co-authorship.

This position clearly goes against such unequivocal statements as this one:

Unlike other virtual worlds and social networks, Decentraland is not controlled by a centralized organization. There is no single agent with the power to modify the […] economics of the currency.
