[DAO:ea716b3] Ban the name Yemei

by 0x153b2252eddcb3690ae6f5e9f38be13779e1364d (ClearlyNotYemel)

Should the name Yemei be added to the Denied Names list, banning it from Decentraland?

Description

The foundation has already threatened to ban a user for using this name. Perhaps they forgot about the correct mechanisms that should be used to address names they find concerning.

Figured @yemel must have forgotten how the DAO handles names, so I wanted to make this prop for him.

Hopefully, he has already DM’d the person using Arie’s name to vote on Governance and had Kaze threaten to ban him from the platform for using it.

@yemel do you think your name being used is s problem or not?

Because if people are dumb enough to think a blue haired green skinned Yemei is the real you, surely many new dao voters would assume this is you

if you are trying to get unbanned, that is not going to happen. All bans are permanent & there is not a single self conscious soul who will support you.

is that your new alt? because it’s the first I’ve heard of it.

why not burn the name instead of proposing to ban your own name? If you need the burn address, the community can assist.

It is important that the proper process is respected and followed.

There is a process in place for dealing with names that should not be in circulation for users to have or use, and it isn’t for the Foundation to threaten to ban users who are using them.

If one were to accept the Foundation’s right to ignore the established process and tools, they would be participating in undermining the community’s rights.

So if the Foundation and Founders believe that users having their names, or similar names, is justification enough to ban that user from access to decentraland, they must follow the process to restrict the use of these names and to not simply point, arbitrarily, to parts of the Terms of Use that were not intended to be used to police names as justification for their actions in threatening users with their account being terminated.

Thank you for your question.

I don’t think there’s sufficient justification to ban the user from the platform. The DAO has a clear procedure for banning names, and it should be followed.

What do you think Folks ? @yemel @ginoct @esteban @maraoz

Should we ban every name the Foundation forgot to mint?
History will repeat itself until we learn the lesson.

You haven’t been banned from Decentraland.. perhaps you have been banned from Foundation’s clients in Decentraland.

I own 3/4 of the Original Founders in the Decentraland whitepaper because they are historic figures.. I have never been threatened by any of the founding members because i hold their name.

Are you sharing the whole truth with the community?

At no point have I stated that I was banned solely for owning or using the name.

I said, as shown in the photograph below, that I was threatened with a ban for owning and using the name.

Please let me know if you are still confused. I will do my best to clarify further.

Let’s not forget the foul language that led to Jar0d’s ban please. ClearlyNotYemel is one of his other alt accounts and this has been ongoing for many many years.

don’t get the story twisted, ClearlyNotYemel name was minted 6 days ago

This is all relevant because your actions within this timeframe is what led you to your ban.

Read between the lines, many platform users made an official complaint.

You’re asking them to ban a name? … the problem isn’t the name, its the person minting and using it with ill intent as an impersonator of a Founder (or anyone else for that matter) …

The problem is the person who continues to abuse names, making near visual matches in order to troll others as the impersonated name. Jar0d has done this with NWlZ (spelled with a lowercase “L”) and 0ldguy (spelled with a numeric zero) that I have experienced. He’s very likely trolled people impersonating other names I haven’t seen, like YemeI (spelled with a uppercase ‘i’)

… so again, we’re trying to ban a name not the problem, Jar0d.

So Jar0d throws a fit in world for impersonating someone and getting told to stop … cusses people (everyone), spams chat for many uncomfortable minutes. Gets banned, jumps on another wallet and start doing the same thing on another wallet … miss using the naming system to harass people, continues to be rude, and threatens me twice in world … and you all think the name is the problem, not the person? lol

you are correct, the problem is not the name but the person minting the names to impersonate community members and provoke them for attention. No one would be talking about jared if he wasn’t doing these types of gimmicks.
