[DAO:cd8c24d] Open up the marketplace to non-wearable items

by 0x951a6698f644a9b1c634abc416b9d9902aaf3db9 (Bob59)

The aim of this proposal is to make you aware that the clothing items on the marketplace are not the only interest of Decentraland members.

Indeed, designers compete in ingenuity to attract potential buyers to them, which in a way is a good thing.
But Decentraland should not just be a place where the aesthetics of clothing are paramount.

I’ve only been here a short time, but I came here because I think it has real potential. Let me explain:
I’m French and I’m forced to say that very few French people know about Decentraland.
A few weeks ago I learned about the project to set up ambassadors to promote this platform. It’s a very good project.
But in the end, after several weeks on the site, what will the new members think?
If they want to get involved, they’ll improve their avatars, take part in events and maybe play in the casinos. Then they’ll get bored.

It’s sad to say that Decentraland is currently a wasteland dotted with numerous galleries, of varying quality, displaying nft available on OpenSea and rarely available for purchase.
The second activity on Decentraland is property speculation. I have nothing against it, but it’s not an end in itself.
Decentraland must play its trump card, which is culture. The galleries currently on show offer their visitors only modern works, sometimes of very fine quality, but the vast majority of them come from creative software and are so ugly that they would give our children nightmares.

Is this what culture is all about? Sorry to shock some of you.

I’m French, I’m 54 years old and I collect tokens that were minted during the reign of Louis XIV who reigned between 1643 and 1715. I estimate that during this period more than 3,000 different types of token were minted, a few hundred of each.
Many of them have disappeared because they were melted down for economic reasons. They were made of copper, brass, silver and sometimes gold.
Personally, I have at least 120 of them in a state of preservation that is sometimes exceptional, languishing in a bank vault.

My aim on Decentraland is to create a gallery where these tokens will be displayed.
But not like other galleries, taped up in a frame on a wall with an OpenSea link. No, I want to display them on a 3D base with all the basic information (year minted, origin of minting, weight, diameter, metal, etc.).
For me, displaying tokens for everyone to see, some of which were minted 380 years ago, is an example of culture.
I’m not hiding the fact that I’d like to produce nfts of my tokens in order to sell them. This would allow me to develop my collection and my investments on Decentraland.

But why sell them on a platform other than Decentraland? Why let other structures benefit from them when everything can be sold on the marketplace of Decentraland ?
Imagine all the beneficial financial implications for the site (publication costs, commissions on sales, etc.) if only 2% of current members, various collectors, thought like me and could benefit from an opening of the marketplace.

A windfall of income generated by the momentum of the rare collectors of sure values, already present on the site, offering the exclusivity of their collection to members of Decentraland.

An irresistible attraction, millions of collectors around the world unable to physically acquire the object of their desire and wanting the rare nft.
And everything that comes from it.
I thank you for making the effort to read me and leave you to your thoughts.

Thanks to Deepl for the translation.

I like your idea. As an artist myself, if I ever sold my work, I would prefer to list it in a Decentraland native marketplace only available with the Mana token. You’re right… this could be a huge opportunity and new utility for our coin. Honestly…why…haven’t…we…thought of this before??? (Is there a technical barrier?)

(I also love that you want to take IRL old coins and bring them to DCL. Do it!)

Thank you for your support and your very positive comment.

In fact, they are not coins but tokens. The participants in these commissions could not “ethically” receive any remuneration for their participation. They were therefore given a metal weight which had no face value but only intrinsic value. As a result, most of these tokens were melted down.

The higher the commissions, the more remarkable the engravings by the engravers of the time. They were often true works of art.

I also think that this proposal may pose a few technical problems, but nothing insurmountable for good developers, especially if the procedure for publishing and managing sales fees remains the same as for wearables
In fact, you simply need to reorganise the marketplace by adding a category and do the same thing for the assets in the members’ accounts.

I agree that Decentraland, more than a general metaverse, has focused a lot on the topic of fashion, and I think that it would be necessary to open up to other issues including its marketplace.

According to what I understand from your poll, you want to make a gallery displaying your tokens, and you would also like the NFT version to be able to be marketed in some way on the Decentraland marketplace. If I’m wrong let me know.

In this case, nothing prevents you from creating your own gallery with another theme other than the typical NFTs that you see in many places. In fact, this seems to me to be something that adds extra value to this platform.

On the other hand, I also think that in the marketplace you could trade other non-wearable items, such as furniture for scenes and other items, but I don’t think it would be convenient to trade products that do not have a direct use in the world of DCL, since that adding such a distant category at this time could confuse many users and would not be coherent.

I voted all right because I think that opening the marketplace to other issues would be very beneficial (as long as they have use in DCL) and I would like to see the Draft phase of this Poll.

You have indeed understood correctly. I’m in the process of taking the necessary steps to create a gallery on Decentraland to display the NFTs of my tokens.

The reason I want to sell them exclusively through the marketplace is that I want to reinvest a large part of the profits on Decentraland.

I’m not saying that I’m going to make a fortune, I’m just saying that I’m not the only one who thinks that inside sales shouldn’t be limited to Wearables.

The example you give of selling furniture on the marketplace fits perfectly within the scope of my proposal.

In fact, all the designers present on Decentraland will be able to offer their creations on the marketplace.

This will result in a considerable addition of diverse content. Some will be popular, others not, and it will be the players who will set the new trends.

But economically, if the project succeeds, it will obviously benefit everyone:

  • For the DAO, it will generate additional revenue,

  • A considerable influx of new content that will attract new members,

  • A considerable contribution from MANA to the site’s economy,

  • An obvious increase in sales of Wearables for new members who want to buy,

  • A real estate boost, because if people are interested in the platform, they’ll want to move there,

  • The reduction in the number of MANAs available on the exchanges, which will have the effect of boosting its rating,

  • Decentraland’s growing reputation in the world of Metavers.

This proposal can easily be applied to the marketplace as a whole, and is a necessary step in the evolution that will benefit everyone.

I hope I’ve answered your questions.

Hello, I am really intrigued about your idea and wonder if you don’t mind joining the DAO Discord for further discussion. Decentraland DAO

Hi, I really like your idea of opening the marketplace because let’s face it, the spend is way more than the intake when it comes to DAO funds. Your prop ends soon but I do think there is further discussion to be had around your thought. I also wonder, why not just let this be a new free commerce platform? Well, not free…rather open.
