[DAO:45a694d] Define a way to vote for Revocations Committee Members

One of our goals as a Grant Support Squad is to take care of the DAO Treasury. During the first four months of our Squad, we went through 58 grants that were finished ($3.5M USD) before the Grant Support Squad existed, and we were concerned about 17 of those grants regarding the achievement of what they had proposed. This represents 1,3M USD. Almost 50% of the available funds were provided to grants during that period.

In the active grants, we found cases where the Grantees wouldn’t complete the project that the community had voted on and some other projects that were delayed on the proposed roadmap. The difficulty in these cases was that the contracts of these grants were still vesting.

For that reason, we recommended to the DAO Committee (who has the ability to stop the vesting contracts using the action named “revoke”), to execute the only technical mechanism that the DAO had to stop vesting contracts as a preventive action.

But this took implications for the reputation of the grantees, so we worked on mitigating the negative impact that the “revocation” has on our grantee´s reputation by requesting the DAO Committee to implement the pause feature, which allows a preventive pause in the vesting contract, freezing the funds until the case is solved.

Also, we went through a governance process to create a Revocations Committee where the community voted for the procedure of the initial setup, which is the following:

  1. There will be an open application period in the forum (like the community has done in the past and is doing with the new DAO Committee member). Applications will be submitted by the prospects as posts on the forum, and applicants should answer the questions mentioned in the complete framework. This action was executed here.

  2. The Grant Support Squad interviews the candidates and makes a final selection of 5 members and two substitutes. For the creation of this committee and its renewals, the final selection will be presented to the community in a poll. This was also done here.

  3. There will be a final poll for the community to vote to accept or decline this selection. This process will be repeated when the committee is renewed. As this was rejected by the community, we are now posting potential solutions to this blocker in this poll.

The Community flagged that the procedure to set up the initial Revocations Committee should be similar to the process of adding a new DAO Committee member. Specifically, the community would want the opportunity to interview the candidates.

It’s important to note that, to honor the process of votation and keep the legitimacy of the governance process that we as a DAO have, we are here proposing two ways to get through this blocker:

Meet the candidates: Go through the procedure voted, re-submit the selected candidates’ poll but before that including an open session hosted by the Facilitation Squad to introduce them, and be better informed to vote if the candidates are a good fit for the position.
If this option is selected, the details of the session will be informed through Discord by the Facilitation Squad.

Meet and vote for the candidates: The Facilitation Squad would host an open session where the selected five candidates and two substitutes can be introduced. Then the Grant Support Squad would submit one poll per candidate, following the DAO Committee´s procedure.
This will improve the previously voted procedure, give the community the opportunity to meet the members and also have the possibility of accepting or rejecting each of them in their own separate poll.
If this option is selected, the details of the session will be informed through Discord by the Facilitation Squad.

  • Meet the candidates
  • Meet and vote for the candidates:
  • Invalid question/options

Hey @Zino thanks for this proposal and your overall contribution to Decentraland and DAO.

I want to see in candidate list Tudamoon, who also applied for this position but was rejected after interview. I believe he deserves the opportunity to be voted on by the community because he already showed himself in action, by his request some grants were revoked.

Yeah there were some conflicts in which he was involved, but he made conclusions and in general we are all not perfect.

Voting “Invalid questions” because this poll lacks option for elections to be fair and unbiased in my personal opinion.

@web3nit, I am a candidate who was selected by the GSS committee through submission, interview and then selection throughout a defined process which was open to community members.

Although I have not always agreed with @Tudamoon I do respect that as a candidate who was not selected for this particular position, he has voted to support the team that was selected through the GSS vetting process in the last poll. In addition, he has also voted to “meet and vote for the same candidates” in this poll.

I propose that the candidates who were vetted by the GSS committee be voted on by their peers with a “meet and vote for the candidates” session.
