Decentraland is a global platform with users speaking a variety of different languages. Decentraland Names in their current form do not allow for alternative languages such as Arabic, Mandarin, Hindi etc. The current restrictions are ; they may not exceed 15 characters, contain spaces, or include any non-alphanumeric characters. If Decentraland is to be adopted, inclusivity of all languages seems logical.
(Decentraland Names leverage ENS as Subdomains of parent domain, dcl.eth. ENS Clubs have formed such as Arabic 999 Club & 999 CN Club, indicating clear demand for alternative languages.)
Diversity and inclusivity should be a cornerstone of what we strive for here in Decentraland. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I think having the name that you identify by in your native language is vital for the user experience of our worldwide audience. We should not be limited to the Latin (Roman) English alphabet for options. Iām voting YES.
If a person is going to be able to visualize themselves in a virtual world like Decentraland, they need to see themselves in it. That means reading their name as they would have written it. Also reading the names of their friends as they would write it.
