Introduction and background

Hi everyone this is Mazzak! I am the creator of Soul Magic, a magical role play game in Decentraland. Soul Magic was started in 2022 as an NFT project and was selected to join the first play-to-earn incubation program of Decentraland. After its launched, the project then received grants from Decentraland DAO to fund its expansion. Soul Magic is positioned as a game of games, where players can do different activities like meditation, mining, farming, fishing, alchemy etc. There is also an NFT trading card game, Capture Game, containing characters, creatures and item cards.

Prior to Soul Magic, my connection with Decentraland began in 2017 when Decentraland was doing its initial coin offering. I have been investing in MANA token and land since then.

My professional background is mainly related to investment and digital technology. I hold a finance masters degree in Imperial College London and worked in private equity investments for several years. Then I founded a digital studio in Hong Kong, providing solutions to MNCs and startups.

Soul Magic was selected to join the Hong Kong Game Enhancement Scheme, which we received marketing sponsorships to exhibit in Tokyo Game Show in September 2024 and funding to promote the game. Recently, Soul Magic was selected to join a startup accelerator program by Cyberport, which is a leading digital technology incubator in Hong Kong.

The experiences gained from building Soul Magic allowed me to deeply understand the technical, marketing and DAO aspects of Decentraland. I am hoping to contribute to the further development of Decentraland and promote the platform especially in Asia and the greater China region.

Vision for Decentralandā€™s future

From Decentralandā€™s website, you can see Decentralandā€™s slogan ā€œFind your people, explore diverse events, and spark your creativity in a virtual world built and owned by its community.ā€. My vision for Decentralandā€™s future includes:

  1. Incentivize content creation
  2. Onboarding communities
  3. Innovate with AI technology

1.Incentivize content creation

Decentralandā€™s success is highly driven by its content, that is developed by the creators. Users are acquired to the platform and retained through creators. As a web3 UGC platform, I believe that it is beneficial for Decentraland to establish an incentive system to reward creators in order to fuel the development of content, such that creators are incentivized to build experiences, acquire users and promote in-world economies. With a robust creator economy, demand for land in Genesis City and MANA token will increase.

Evidence

  1. Onboarding communities

Onboarding users through NFT communities will be efficient to acquire web3 users and crypto natives. It is suggested to acquire users through establishing partnerships and reducing the frictions of Decentralandā€™s platform to onboard users and NFT communities, such as optimizing the existing system for publishing NFT-linked wearables, enabling NFT in-world avatars as well as implementing easy-to-use tools for creating scenes and mini-games, will make onboarding users much easier.

  1. Innovate with AI technology

AI technology can empower creators and enhance user experiences. For example, there can be AI-powered NPCs that can interact and communicate with users. Furthermore, AI can also make the platform more accessible with global users by translating content into different local languages, thus enhancing user engagement with the platform. Integration of AI empowered tools can assist creators to produce more efficiently and lower the production cost of both 2D and 3D assets. I believe in the future, AI will make creation much easier, and creators can focus on coming up with innovative ideas.

Concluding words

I am glad to attend Decentralandā€™s community summit in Argentina in May 2024. It was a great opportunity to visit the birthplace of Decentraland and meet passionate community members travelled from all over the world. Although there are different web3 virtual worlds and UGC platforms emerged over the recent years, Decentraland is the first metaverse on-chain and has caught the eyeballs of crypto native users since its launch. We are still in the early stage of Web3 adoption and there is a significant room for growth. I am committed to support the development of Decentraland and hope the platform will thrive in the future!

Hi Mazzak! Your experience and and involvement in DCL is on the historic level. I do not know much about you other than what i have just read in your postulation so I look forward to get to know your perspective better over the next few weeks. Hopefully we all can make Toxicā€™s meeting to discuss this and use it as an opportunity to get to know each other better.
