Should the catalyst node with the domain peer-wc1.decentraland.org and owner 0xa7C825BB8c2C4d18288af8efe38c8Bf75A1AAB51 be removed from Decentraland’s Catalyst Network?
Description
Node shut down https://peer.decentral.io, confirmed in Catalyst owners chat, and no longer operational. Proposing removal from the DAO. To rebalance, the Foundation retires one node peer-wc1. Foundation will keep 4 while the community 5
Note: form to shutdown a node has a bug and a live node must be enter in the form — the node to be removed is peer.decentral.io which correspond to the address 0xa7C825BB8c2C4d18288af8efe38c8Bf75A1AAB51
It has been confirmed in the Catalyst owners chat that Decentral Games is no longer operational and that the node has been shut down.
To maintain decentralization and keep the Foundation below 50% ownership, it is suggested the Foundation retires peer-wc1, as the US region already has good node coverage. This would result in 4 Foundation nodes and 5 community-owned nodes.
Not really. The network currently has 11 nodes and will move to 9 — still well a high number of nodes for resilience. Catalyst nodes are distributed, so if one is unavailable others on the network respond automatically.
It’s also worth noting that Catalyst nodes are no longer the primary content delivery layer. Most content consumed by Decentraland clients is served and optimized through a separate caching infrastructure, so the nodes themselves see relatively low direct traffic.
Removing two nodes will not impact the user experience or stability.
