[DAO:8040faa] **The DAO Needs a Public Definition of Success and a 2030 Plan.**

The Decentraland community has heard “we’re early” for years. The Foundation vesting contract ends February 2030. That is not early. That is a deadline. This poll asks the DAO Council and Regenesis Labs to formally answer on record what success looks like before that deadline and what happens if it isn’t met.

This question has been raised informally by community members repeatedly over the years. It gets acknowledged and then nothing changes. This poll exists to force a formal, public, on-record response through the governance process where it cannot be ignored or buried in a forum thread.

The facts as they stand today:

  • The Foundation vesting contract ends February 20, 2030 — 3 years and 10 months from now
  • The DAO generates approximately $5,000–6,000 USD per month in marketplace and curation fees
  • The treasury holds approximately $6.8M USD in DAO-controlled wallets plus $3.3M held by Regenesis Labs
  • There is no publicly documented plan for what happens to DAO operations, Regenesis Labs, hosting, infrastructure, the client, legal entities, or community governance after the vesting ends
  • The Foundation currently handles things the community rarely thinks about — hosting, domains, legal, the brand, the reference client infrastructure. When the Foundation’s funding ends, those responsibilities don’t disappear.

This is not a criticism of Regenesis Labs or the Council. It is a question every stakeholder in this ecosystem should be asking and nobody has formally answered.

The Question

  • What is the DAO’s and Regenesis Labs’ formal definition of success for Decentraland by February 2030?
  • What metrics — user numbers, treasury sustainability, revenue, platform adoption — constitute a successful outcome?
  • What is the contingency plan if those metrics are not met?
  • Who picks up the responsibilities currently handled by the Foundation when its funding ends?
  • If the answer is “we don’t have a plan yet” — when will we?

If this poll passes, the DAO Council and Regenesis Labs are formally required to publish a public response to these questions within 90 days.

Why This Matters Now

The grants program just opened. New builders are arriving. Decentraland just launched on Epic Games Store and Android. New people are arriving. They deserve to know what they’re arriving to and whether it will still be here. We are actively inviting people to invest their time and creativity into this platform. They deserve to know whether the platform will still exist in a form worth building on in four years. The people who have already invested years here deserve the same answer.

“We’re early” is not a plan. February 2030 is not early. It is a date.

Poll Options

  • :white_check_mark: Yes — the Council and Regenesis Labs should formally publish a 2030 success definition and contingency plan
  • :cross_mark: No — this is not necessary
  • Abstain
  • Yes - Publish a formal plan for year 2030 and beyond
  • No - We’re early

I know the timing feels off. Decentraland just launched on Epic Games Store. Android is live. The grants program opened. By all appearances things are moving forward and I genuinely mean that — those are real milestones and the people who made them happen deserve credit.

But when is the right time for this question? After the Foundation vesting ends? After the treasury runs out? After we’ve invited another wave of builders into something we can’t sustain? I’ve been asking versions of this for years. So have others. It gets acknowledged and the conversation moves on. I’m done letting that happen.

The best response to this poll isn’t to vote it down. It’s to answer the question so well that nobody has to ask it again. Give the builders who just applied for grants a reason to believe the platform they’re building on will still be here when their project is done.

I’m not apologizing for the timing. There is no good time to ask hard questions. There’s just now or too late.

Show up. Vote. And if you’ve been sitting on the sidelines waiting for a reason to get involved — this is it. This ecosystem doesn’t survive on vibes and nostalgia. It survives because people decide it’s worth fighting for and then actually fight.
