We’re exploring a new idea: turning LAND parcels into decentralized computing nodes. Owners could earn MANA by performing tasks like rendering graphics, supporting AI, or processing data for games and events. This could boost LAND value, enhance decentralization, and unlock new use cases (e.g., NFT creation, analytics). Share your thoughts to shape Decentraland’s future!
Do you support integrating decentralized computing nodes on LAND parcels?
What benefits do you see? (Select all that apply)
New revenue for LAND owners
Stronger decentralization
Support for games, AI, and events
Increased LAND value

Context: This is an exploratory poll to gauge community interest. Results will guide future proposals.
May I ask a technical question? I’m interested in understanding what happens behind the scenes and how you plan to achieve this? Honestly, it sounds a bit like a copy-paste idea from a lot of failed projects (most of them shitcoins) I’ve seen before - what makes this different?
Why just LAND owners can participate?
Now that we have a client though maybe we could do more shared rendering in the client..
But not everybody wants to allocate their gpu..
Toggle option maybe…
It’s possible..
I just don’t think it’s our current trajectory tbh..
Yes, it is possible, but it requires significant updates to the Decentraland infrastructure (new APIs, integration with platforms like Golem/iExec). LANDs can become nodes via smart contracts and external servers, but the engine and protocols need to be improved. This is one of the paths of evolution of Decentraland and at this stage it is only a survey of where to move further in order to develop.
Idea: Phased integration of AI-NPCs and decentralized computing nodes in Decentraland.
Initial AI-NPCs: Deploy AI-NPCs on LAND via SDK and Inworld AI for basic interactions (e.g., NFT sales).
Decentralized Nodes: Turn LAND into computing nodes using Golem/iExec, processing tasks like rendering or AI support, with MANA payouts via Polygon.
AI-Node Synergy: Enable AI-NPCs to use nodes for analytics and personalized content, making them adaptive.
Future Growth: Expand NPC roles (moderators, creators), integrate with other metaverses, and optimize node economics with AI.
Goal: Create a vibrant, decentralized ecosystem with AI-NPCs and LAND nodes, boosting engagement and innovation in Decentraland.
I wasn’t discussing just funding..
Like we probably spend $500k to build something like this..
Are we really going to generate $500k by selling renderings? (probably not)
Most of these AI business are running at huge losses just to gain users..
I’m also not really sure who would be paying us MANA…
That would assume a very niche collection of GPU hungry investors that would need to be able to understand blockchain and MANA to be able to buy in..
Which is a pretty barrier to entry..
Decentraland needs technological advancements to:
Enhance LAND functionality (monetization, new use cases)
Strengthen decentralization (less reliance on centralized servers)
Improve performance (support for games, events)
Attract users and brands (innovation, AI, computing)
Compete with other metaverses (The Sandbox, Somnium Space…)
Nodes provide computation for adaptive, interactive npc, making the metaverse more alive and engaging. Owners earn mana by supporting AI tasks, increasing the value of plots.
AI support opens up new scenarios…
I think its rational as it strengthens the economy, functionality and competitiveness of Decentraland in the future
Decentraland is a DAO, and the community makes the decisions. You ve shared your opinion, and thats valuable we need to stay realistic. Genesis City remains an empty virtual space. Yes we ve seen improvements- the graphics have gotten better, and a desktop version is now available. However, there are still very few new users, and there are many reasons for this, primarily technical ones.
In my view, Decentraland is at a critical turning point. Today, only a bold innovative idea can serve as a catalyst for the projects revival and a brighter future.
I don’t think that building a computing node infrastructure will bring more users though..
It’s such a niche group of people that we’re looking for..
Granted that LAND owners are generally pretty tech savvy and if launching a node would generate yield then I’m sure people would do it..
In my view, the thing we need to improve Decentraland is as simple as proving the UI/UX.
Decentralized nodes could reduce the load on genesis city servers, particularly for local content and computations. Parcels with local nodes would load faster, especially for complex scenes virtual concerts, events…
I think people that are doing nothing with their land would always opt out, we have a crabs in a bucket mentality here (not everyone) but then again this technical question is beyond my understanding. I’m just trying to take part while I’ve got the time
Im not trying to push my own project or profit from treasury funds. My proposal is simply to start a discussion, as I have the impression that Decentraland is stagnating.
Decentraland was once a popular platform. Unfortunately, due to poor decisions, ineffective moderation, fake experts, con artists, favoritism, and various other issues, many users and investors have left. The floor price has significantly dropped. To achieve the mission you’re referring to, we first need to focus on how to bring those people back. Reviving the community isn’t easy.
